I am very excited to share with you my entry for the Millinery Australia Design Award. Half way through making this one I broke my arm and some how managed to keep going, there’s 900 individual seeds that make up the three Dandelions.

I love seeing pieces recycled, I made the cream one about 4 years ago 👒 xx

Irises represent faith, hope and courage. Diagnosed with a disease in February this year that has fractured many of my bones in my back and caused serious damage to a few nerves which means 24/7 lower back pain made these the perfect flower of choice.

Turning to my love of silk flower making, a craft I went to Japan years ago to learn was my answer for this years piece.

There’s 6 elements to these flowers, cutting every petal, leaf & sepal, dying them, attaching wires & backing, making the beards, shaping petals/leaves/sepels and construction of each flower, bud & stem and that’s just the flowers 🤪.

Constant back pain means it’s one hour work then three hours rest 🥴 then repeat that time and time again,

Milliners are a tough bunch of people, we spend long, long hours with our art and we persist no matter what. It took a very long time to make this piece but to watch each flower go through the process and turn into buds and blooms every second was worth it.

I’m so proud that I was able to complete this piece and ecstatic that I managed to enter my 8th and that my beautiful friend was there with me yet again to model my piece, thank so much

Due to an ongoing health issue this year I’ve had to make the very difficult decision to not supply custom made millinery this year 😢, I do have some pieces made earlier in the year that I will post in the coming weeks. Sorry for any inconvenience and I hope to be back next year. 😘😘
