Khalehla Cartwright of Herbert has exceptional commitment and resilience. Khalehla is devoted to caring for her sister Emmelline, diagnosed with Dup15q. Her dedication has resulted in significant improvements in Emmelline's health, confidence, and community engagement. Despite the demanding nature of her caregiving responsibilities, Khalehla ensures Emmelline's safety and well-being, fostering her participation in community activities and social interactions. Through consistent medication administration and patient guidance in life skills, Khalehla has reduced Emmelline's anxiety and facilitated her growth and independence. Khalehla's selfless commitment and love shine through, exemplifying her extraordinary impact as a young carer in enhancing her sister's quality of life and overall well-being.

Carers NT Young Carers have kicked off the year with positivity and strength with Carers NT! 😄 The young carers came together to connect with fellow carers, embracing the incredible power of peer support.

The 'New Year, New You' workshop, guided by the amazing Breanna Duncan from Balanced Choice Programme, was an inspiring experience that left our carers motivated and uplifted. The National Scholarship Program celebrates the talents and strengths of young people across the country who exhibit extraordinary promise but lack the support and resources to reach their education goals.

Every year, over 25 young people are awarded Youth Off The Streets scholarships valued at $6,000 to pursue further education or training and work towards a positive future.

The Australian Government has announced increased funding for our Young Carer Bursary program. This means we can increase the amount of the bursary by nearly 25%, and offer the bursary to hundreds more young carers, including in the existing 2023 round!

If you received a 2023 bursary, Carers Australia will be in touch soon. We will also be contacting shortlisted applicants we weren’t able to provide with a bursary because of funding limitations.

Applications for the 2024 Young Carer Bursary program open in July, so keep an eye out on our socials and website for more information.

The young carers and our team had an absolute blast at the Couch Surfing event yesterday! Thank you Anglicare NT and City of Darwin for putting together yet another successful day 😊 It was a great way to bring the community together and raise awareness about youth homelessness.

We’d also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Harvey Norman for their generous couch donation which will be further donated to a family that needs it.

All of us are looking forward to the next couch surfing! 🤩🥳
