Study tip #7 USE YOUR RESOURCES
Never, never, never just rely on your textbook to study in VCE. Never rely only on your teacher. Never watch a few edrolo videos the night before the sac.
ALWAYS combine your resources into a well-diversified group. This can stop poorly-written textbooks and confused teachers from giving you the WRONG information. Our private tutoring service can further expand your resources and broaden your skillset while navigating Year 12
Two hours after going back to school and realising that you just wasted the last two months.

Assessment Tip #2
USE READING TIME
You might not know it yet, but the most important time in any SAC or Exam is that short period between sitting down and picking up your pen for the first time. It is absolutely ESSENTIAL that you use this time to your advantage.
An efficient student will use every precious second of reading time to deconstruct, analyse and plan their response to every single question in that booklet.
By the time you pick up your pen, you've already that assessment because all you have to is write...
Study Tip #6
KNOW WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
This may seem like an obvious statement, but it may be the most important rule to learn when you are studying VCE subjects. Your strongest resource isn't your elaborate notes, it isn't your teacher's either. It isn't edrolo videos, your older siblings notes or you smart mates. Its the VCAA Study Designs. They tell you EXACTLY what you need to know for every SAC or Exam you will ever face in Year 11 or 12.
Do yourself a favour and print out the study designs of your subjects. READ THEM. MEMORISE THEM. Make summary notes underneath each dot point.
Overstudying can make even the smartest, most hard-working students struggle in VCE. Study what you need to know and study it well.
CLUTCH Academy is proud to begin its new series of assessment tips, providing helpful tips on how to smash every SAC or final exam that comes your way 💪
Assessment Tip #1
MAKE A ROUTINE
The main reason why SACs and Exams get us so worried is that they break our ordinary routine of comfort at school. We get it! It's stressful, it's nerve-wracking and who needs any of that when you're doing a test impacting that all-intimidating ATAR score.
The best way to break out of this fear? Make a consistent routine before every single SAC and Exam. Personally, I made an effort to relax the night before by breaking out some classic MarioKart. Another CLUTCH Academy tutor used to blast Snoop Dogg as he went for a jog the morning of every SAC.
The truth is, it really doesn't matter what routine you choose to make. As long as it's consistent and makes you comfortable, focussed and clear-minded, it'll help you those SACs and this will carry over onto your final score
Study Tip #5
GET INVOLVED!
There's no doubt that many of you are still feeling frustrated with and bored of online learning already. We don't blame you! Sitting and silently staring at a screen all day will probably rot your brain more than trying to wrap your head around Analysing Argument in English.
To combat this unproductive boredom, it is our recommendation that you try and get AS INVOLVED AS POSSIBLE in all of your classes. Not only will the time pass by much quicker if you are actively speaking and asking questions, you will find that you can retain a lot more information during class, reducing those study hours that have been draining you since you were forced to stay home.
In no way is this an ideal situation to be learning in, but use that to your advantage by becoming a more active learner and leapfrogging those who are sitting muted and watching the clock tick by each lesson.
Study tip #4
EMBRACE I.T.
Online schooling. It’s different; it’s stressful and it’s tough. It’s easy to complain about, it’s easy to avoid and it’s just as easy to fall behind...
However, take these few basic points of advice and you can approach your online term of school with less stress and a more positive mindset:
- Be positive! Accept what you can’t control! Treat it like any other term of school.
- You’re not doing this alone! You’re teachers want to help you- utilise them! Talk to them, email them, ask them questions, don’t be shy... you aren’t expected to learn everything on your own.
- PLAN! It’s understandable to have a lot going on in your mind right now. To help clear your mind, list everything you need to get done each week, then:
Plan your week...
Plan your day...
Make it simple and achievable...
Achieve it.
Happy thoughts - happy mind - happy studying
Make the most of it.
You’ve got this! 👊🏾

Study Tip #3
CLEAN. YOUR. DESK.
Anyone who has ever grinded out practice for an important exam will have seen their workspace looking like the image below at some point. Although it is an inevitable mess of paper that piles up in a matter of days, its never too late to clean up a workspace.
Studies show that the act of cleaning a desk dramatically boosts productivity. Furthermore, organisation of folders, textbooks and handouts by subject also increases study efficiency, allowing you to spend more time hitting the books and less time painfully sifting through them.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
In accordance with recent updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, our tutors will be taking several measures to respect the social distancing regulations and prevent further spread of the virus within Victoria.
However, to ensure that students are still given the opportunity to learn during this tough time, CLUTCH Academy is pleased to offer 'Facetime Tutoring' to its students. Calls can be made at at more flexible hours and many aspects of face-to-face teaching (an educational element lost in the recent closing of schools) will be retained.
We understand that these times can be tough financially, so we are offering these online sessions at a reduced $35 per hour across all subjects.
Good luck to all students, especially those in year 12, to continue learning and growing despite the difficult situation we are facing together!
Study Tip #2
HOMEWORK AND STUDY ARE DIFFERENT
Organisation is one of the key elements of an effective study routine. There is no doubt that some days you will be swamped with homework and others that, by chance, you will be free of required work. While it is vital that set homework is completed in order to maintain a constant pattern of learning growth, it is perhaps even more important to find time for review and further study throughout the year.
The BEST method of preparing for exams is to constantly sprinkle content review throughout your week. We suggest at least one hour per subject dedicated towards past content, otherwise you risk forgetting the information!
This is why the majority of our tutoring sessions are dedicated towards perfecting past or current content rather than teaching new content.
Do HOMEWORK when you have to, and STUDY when you can!

Study Tip #1
HANDWRITE. EVERYTHING.
Call us old-fashioned but here at CLUTCH Academy we are strong believers in handwriting study notes and practice questions to maximise information retention. Multiple studies have proven that a pen and paper is superior to a keyboard in terms of learning content effectively.
During their Year 12 studies, many of our CLUTCH Academy coaches experimented with handwriting styles and grips to get the most out of their learning and gain an edge over their cohorts in the final exams.
Here is a link to some interesting articles with more handwriting tips and strategies.
