Swan Valley Medieval Fayre

As the City of Swan, changed the rules in regard to our two year grant we will not be putting on the Swan Valley Medieval Fayre until we find another grant or sponsor. We were disappointed when we had to pull out of last years event, due to two tragic deaths affecting members of the organising committee.

We hope to bring you this event when we have sufficient sponsorship and/or grants, as well as a new home - the Ellenbrook Youth Centre is underway as well as the train, so the Charlie Gregorini Memorial Park as it was has gone.

Thank you for your continued interest, and hope we can fulfill our promise of a Medieval Fayre in the near future.

It is with deepest regret that we must announce the cancellation of the Swan Valley Medieval Fayre 2021.
We have enjoyed a fantastic response to the inaugural Swan Valley Medieval Fayre from the local community and throughout the state of WA, especially in the Medievalist communities. We were excited with the groups, markets and entertainment we had been able to bring together to perform and show the skills in medieval armour making and other arts that have almost been lost, and in keeping to our medievalist theme throughout the whole event, and the volunteers that have come forward to help.
Unfortunately, a key member of our team has had a family member succumb to cancer recently after providing months of support, spending each weekend driving between Perth and the Southwest. Subsequently the team member and their family are devastated and need to spend time supporting each other in their loss. This has put pressure on the remaining team, and it was concluded that we could not create the type of event we have envisioned without the full team in the final lead up to the event this year. We would not have fulfilled our commitment to the medievalist community as well as the local community and businesses if we continued with this year’s event.
We remain committed to bringing this event to the Swan Valley and our local community of Ellenbrook and surrounds and will do so on the 10th of September 2022. With your support we hope to see this as an ongoing event for the years to come
Again, we are deeply sorry about not being able to execute our event this year and any unfulfilled expectations that this may cause. We hope to see you at our Swan Valley Medieval Fayre 2022 on the 10th of September 2022.

One of the most common motifs in European medieval art, or at least between the years 1200 to 1400, were knights fighting giant snails - and nobody knows why. Pictures of knights in full armour valiantly charging into battle against snails became weirdly common. “You get these all the time in the margins of Gothic manuscripts,” one scholar has said. “And I do mean all the time.
