A place where kids can come to have fun, connect and learn through physical activity. Juniors: 9am-11.45am and
Seniors: 12.15pm - 3pm.
We weave aspects of the PDHPE curriculum into a 10 week term of sports, games and fun. THE BASIC:
AKC will take place once a week, on WEDNESDAYS, and will comprise of three age groups:
- AKC Tiny Tots (
Both are run by Guy Hudson, a very passionate, enthusiastic and experienced PDHPE teacher who has taught PDHPE for over 20yrs and who homeschools his kids as well. LOCATIONS:
Although we have a regular venue booked at North Tuncurry Touch Footy Oval we like to keep things fun and varied, and have a number of other venues in the Forster / Tuncurry area. Depending on the week's sport and activities and indeed depending on the weather, we might be at our wet-weather option, on a grass oval, at a local beach doing beach games or even doing water-based activities at the Bull-Ring. Parents/carers will be given plenty of notice of venue. ETHOS:
ALL age groups will be run with the same ethos of:
- Learning lots whilst having lots of fun.
- Fair play, honesty and sportsmanship is more important than the result.
- Teamwork and camaraderie makes for more fun. CONTENT:
The THREE age groups will have a different focus, however the Juniors and Seniors programs will be linked to NESA outcomes. These can be provided at the parents/carers request at the end of each term. AKC Tiny Tots is an opportunity for the little ones to burn some energy and to mix with some older kids in some play-based games and activities. It's a wonderful way for them to learn how to build friendships, to interact within a larger group settings and to introduce them to the basic fundamental movements skills. AKC Juniors is about the kids learning and developing their fundamental movement skills through a wide variety of fun small-sided games and activities, whilst developing the important concepts of teamwork and comradery. The focus will be on enhancing technique in throwing, catching, jumping, kicking, passing, evading, offensive and defensive skills with the aim of being able to ultimately transfer these skills into a number of different scenarios. The kids will be introduced to various team sports within a number of different environments ranging from grass, beach and water. Embedded within these practical activities, Guy will also have the opportunity to link and discuss important PDHPE theory topics with the kids such as: one's self esteem; sense of self (what is important to you); personal safety; environmental health; communication; nutrition; personal identity; health choices etc. AKC Seniors is about helping to move the kids to their next step in their own PDHPE journey at their own speed. The focus will not only be to develop existing skills and techniques in sport and physical activity but to also increase their depth of understanding around these activities and linking them to health and lifestyle. The kids will be introduced to a number of different sports from around the world and will delve into their rules and regulations. They will have to invent their own games, to develop strategies as a team to help them overcome adverse situations, and they will adopt both leadership and coaching roles within a group setting. We will also introduce the various types of fitness found within different sports and look at the importance it plays in both the sport itself and in life in general. Guy will also use his experience to incorporate survival skills as part of the 10 week program. Topics such as how to capture water, navigation, general camp craft, shelter building, fishing, camp cooking, making snares, first aid etc etc will be covered, culminating in an end of term camp somewhere exciting to put their skills into practice. Embedded within relevant sport and practical activities, Guy will also have the opportunity to link, revisit and discuss important PDHPE theory topics such as: self esteem; sense of self; managing challenges; inclusivity; equality; respectful relationships; healthy choices; health, safe and active lifestyle etc. COST:
