🕵️♀️ Scammers are using the global CrowdStrike issue as a way to try and trick you.
To keep you safe, here are the common signs to spot a scammer.
It’s never been more important to maintain a healthy dose of scepticism from unprompted messages.
If you’re having holdups when trying to reach us this afternoon, it’s because of a global issue affecting both Microsoft and CrowdStrike.
There’s no impact to calls to our Triple Zero call centres or our fixed and mobile network.
Like many of those affected, we’re working with both organisations to get everything back online ASAP. We’ll keep you updated.

📣We’re giving our customers who haven’t upgraded their devices an extra two months to prepare before we switch off our 3G network on 𝟑𝟏 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒.
ICYMI all 3G networks across Australia have been switched off, or are closing. Here’s why:
👉Telcos right across the world are doing this to transition customers to stronger, more reliable and more resilient 4G and 5G mobile networks
👉3G is old technology and how we use our devices has significantly changed
👉Traffic on our 3G network has declined – it accounts for less than 1% of total network traffic
👉We announced we’d be closing 3G around 5 years ago and have been regularly updating customers ever since
Once the network is switched off, old devices that rely on 3G won’t work anymore, so they’ll need to be upgraded. This includes devices like:
📱 3G-only mobile phones
🚨 4G-enabled mobiles that rely on 3G for emergency calls
💳 Other devices that rely on 3G, like medical devices and some of the older EFTPOS terminals
We’ve made it easy to check if you need a new mobile. 𝐒𝐌𝐒 ‘𝟑’ 𝐭𝐨 𝟑𝟒𝟗𝟖 and we’ll tell you if your handset needs to be updated.
For other connected devices, it’s best to reach out to the supplier or manufacturer for more info.

After the Triple Zero outage we experienced on 1 March, we announced an investigation and committed to sharing the findings publicly.
Today, we shared those findings along with the improvements we made immediately and others we’ve made since. You can read more here: https://tel.st/000-report
What matters most when you call Triple Zero is that you can rely on the technology and the team behind the scenes to work seamlessly, to get the help you need. Anything less is not good enough.

If you’re a Telstra customer you might be noticing some issues with mobile calls, we’re working on a fix and hope to get everything back up and running soon. We’ll keep you updated.
UPDATE 2:08PM: Mobile data is not impacted, so if you’re having trouble making calls, you can use services like Apple FaceTime, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and other data-based services to stay in touch while we get this issue sorted out.
UPDATE 2:29PM: Our testing is showing no impact on calls to 000. We’ll let you know once we have more info.
UPDATE 2:55PM Good news! The issue impacting some mobile voice calls was fixed at around 2.30PM (AEDT) today. The issue was caused by a software change. We're sorry for the impact on your day.

At 3:30am (AEDT) this morning we identified an issue transferring some 000 calls to emergency services (ambulance, fire or police).
In Australia, when you dial 000, you’ll speak to one of our specialist call takers who will transfer you to emergency services.
We had it fixed within 90 mins, but during this time our call takers had to use our backup process to manually pass on some caller’s details to emergency services for a call back.
We are so sorry to those who were impacted by this issue. We know that when someone calls Triple Zero any delay is unacceptable.
We’ve started an investigation to understand the cause of the issue, and how we can improve the backup processes we have in place.
⚠️ If you’re in Victoria and having trouble connecting to our networks this afternoon, we’re on it.
The severe storms have knocked out power in a number of areas, which is affecting some of our services.
We’ve already got a number of sites back up and running and we’re working to get other affected services back online as quickly as possible where it’s safe for our techs to do so.
📣 Update 7:40PM (AEDT): Power outages across the state are impacting up to 500k properties, including many of our network sites like mobile base stations. We're using generators to keep as many sites online as possible, while we wait for power to be restored.
If you need to call 000, your mobile will connect to another available network if one is available and ours is not.
We also have thousands of payphones across the state that are free to use, many with free Wi-Fi too. You can find your nearest one here: www.telstra.com.au/find-us?search=payphone
To save your mobile’s battery, switch on Low Power mode and reduce screen brightness.
Our techs will continue to work around the clock, and we’ll keep you posted here with any major news. For local updates, check our outage tracker: www.telstra.com.au/outages
📣 Update 5:30PM Wed (AEDT): We're making good progress on fixing mobile sites impacted by yesterday's storms in Vic but we still have a way to go. Up to date info here: https://tel.st/vic-storms
📣 Update 2:00PM Thursday (AEDT): We’ve now restored 85% of our affected mobile equipment and are working around the clock on the remainder
📣 Update 6:00PM Friday: We’ve now restored 98% of our mobile equipment. We’re continuing to work throughout the weekend until our services are fully back online
✅ Update: 11:00AM Sunday: Great news, 100% of our mobile sites are now back online and delivering coverage. Huge thanks to our hardworking people on the ground for their efforts. We're still sorting out a few things in some spots. We'll post the rest of these updates on our outages page: www.telstra.com.au/outages

👷♂️ Doug got his start with Telstra back in 1958, delivering telegrams at the age of 15 before joining as a ‘technician in training’ the following year.
🏃♂️ Now a grandfather of five, Doug continues to mentor and train today’s Telstra technicians. He still runs 8-10kms a week and loves to brew his own beer.
🍻 In other words, the man is an absolute legend. Cheers, Doug!
