Introducing Nina from Butter Digital 💖

Nina helped me to bring the new Radical Creatures website straight out of my dreams and into reality. Over the last year, we have bonded over our mutual love of cats and delicious snacks - although we still don't agree on which flavour of potato chips are superior 😂 Nina is also a size-inclusive dietitian colleague of mine, and I was lucky enough to spend a few days hanging with her on the Gold Coast earlier this year for the ANZAED conference.

When I say that this rebrand wouldn’t have happened without Nina, I mean it! I have been dreaming of launching Radical Creatures for over two years, but life kept throwing me major curveballs. Nina has been an incredible support (and cheerleader) throughout the rebrand process. She has worked her magic with the tricky tech and website stuff that I haven’t had the know-how to do, as well as taking on a project management role to help keep me on track.

Bringing Radical Creatures to life has definitely taken a village, so I want to acknowledge the people that have helped me finally get this project off the ground.

One of the things I really needed help with was my branding and logo. I had a vision in head of beautiful, whimsical colours and images, with little sparkly details and a beautiful handlettered logo. I had been following Kajal from .by.kajal for a long time, and when she opened up commission work, I jumped at the chance to work with her!

Diet Culture sells health & wellness as a more of a physical journey than an all encompassing approach of mind, body⠀
& soul. ⠀

Diet Culture places thinness on a pedestal as if it is an achievement that should be our life goal. ⠀
⠀
Diet Culture promotes a very narrow ideal of beauty in the form of flawless, slim, toned, lean, tanned, hair free, blemish free, cellulite & stretch mark free, muscular bodies which represent only a very small portion of the human population. ⠀

Diet Culture part of the reason there are marginalised bodies in this world that aren’t adequately represented, included or celebrated. ⠀

According to Diet Culture; ⠀
⠀
Thin = healthy, worthy & happy ⠀
Fat = unhealthy, unworthy & miserable ⠀
⠀
And ⠀
⠀
Weight loss = dedication and achievement ⠀
Weight gain = laziness and failure⠀
⠀
Which of course is total BS! 💩 ⠀

Weight loss is not always an indicator of improved health nor is it always intentional. Yet more often than not, weight loss it is celebrated and complimented as if it is an accomplishment worthy of praise. ⠀

Weight gain for many people can be a sign of health & healing but Diet Culture doesn’t want us to know this. ⠀
⠀
The worst thing about Diet Culture is, once you see and understand what it is and how it operates, you can’t unsee it. ⠀

IT IS EVERYWHERE 😩⠀

But you get to choose what you believe and what you buy into and I for one, refuse to give Diet Culture another cent of my money or minute of my time! ⠀
