I'm busy compiling a stack of photos ready to print for my first ever sole exhibition (does having it at my house count? 😆). I think I'll call it First Soul Exhibition (because that spelling seems to suit my photography).
Anyway, I thought I'd just share how crazy those volcanic ash sunsets have been over the last couple of years. They create something so beautiful (if you stick around after sunset to wait for it!). It's amazing how bright they are. Thought I'd post some pics taken on the same night in 3 different locations to show how the colour changes. It also amazes me how many of my photos after the sun has set have ended up with lens flare because this is so bright.
First pic is at the King River mouth near Strahan in Tasmania. We waited around a bit after the sun had set for the volcanic colours to kick in but I wasn't big on the subject matter, so we decided to drive around further to Lettes Bay where we stayed a while because the colours were phenomenal as they reflected off the water. When I finally called it as "done" and ok to leave, we drove around the corner and were greeted the most amazing red view of Strahan. Anyway... all this just to say "don't run off after the sun sets"!
I've redesigned my logo for a new and exciting season ahead!
We're building an art shed and I'm planning to learn how to paint. It doesn't mean I'll be any good at it... but it's more about fun, so I'm not going to put that pressure on myself to be good.
Meanwhile, I picked up the pencil and did a drawing for the first time in about 20 years, and I'm pretty happy with how my drawing of my cat came out.
Happy New Year to you all!
I thought I'd share this years calendar with you.
I make calendars for my family every year, using my favourite photographs that I've taken from the year just gone. I put all our birthdays and important dates on there as well (but always make "blanks" for other people). Maybe I should start posting them here every January. You'll recognise some of these:
I've been reworking some of the panos I took in Tassie last December and thought I'd share. Three of them aren't panos so don't have that same level of quality, but I think they look good this way. My favourites are the mountains! I think the Lake Pedder ones are a good excuse to go back and reshoot on a nicer day :)
If you're a small business interested in selling my cards individually in your shop, contact me. I have order sheets and bulk price lists I can email out to you. I can also send you a product sample (or visit you personally) so you'll be able to see the quality of the cards.
I have created 5 new cards! Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to order. The pricing is on the main card post (and postage costs) and has been updated to include the new 16 card pack.
Here's something I was working on last year and I thought I'd share my tips here, as well:
Tips for scanning in your photos: Make sure you scan them in at the highest quality (600dpi should be enough) and if you crop them, don't specify a smaller size, and save them at the highest quality setting if your computer has room for that. If they are taken by a professional photographer the whites should not be blown out (lose their detail because it's too bright) so if you know how to "bring that back under control" in your software... if the detail is in the original photo it's best to 'get it back". I've just finished saving a whole heap of photos and it's interesting to me to see how I scanned photos back in 1999 with no photographic knowledge to how I do them now. Check out the difference. The following photos are scanned off the same two images. The size and detail have changed a lot! I have also removed a lot of scratches and artefacts as well though. Not necessarily perfect, but I've done what I am prepared to do with the time I had.
I have had some of my photos made into quality 5x7" greeting cards (all printed locally).
At present, I have 16 different cards available for sale. Prices and postage are below, and if you click on each photo you'll see the cards are numbered. You can order any combination you'd like--just let me know how many of each number you want.
The cards have a nice sheen on the outside and are blank (with no sheen) on the inside so they are easy to write on.
PRICES:
I card $5
5 cards $23
6 cards $26
10 cards $42
16 cards $65
If you live near me, I'm happy to find a way to get the cards to you that don't require delivery costs, but they are as follows:
POSTAGE:
$6 for 1-6 Cards
$12 (for 7 or more cards - includes tracking) throughout Australia
$25 for America. Contact me for other international prices
