Geelong Cellar Door

Really excited to be pouring by the glass this fantastic new release Chardonnay from the new kids on the block ‘ALT ROAD’ down Deans Marsh way. The vineyard was formerly Dinny Goonan wines but a changing of the guard occurred when young couple Katie & Travis Alstin acquired the property. This wine really grabs your attention with its mineral freshness and gentle white flower /honey flavour nuance that evokes dare I say it ‘Chablis-like’ comparisons…we love it!

We just changed our wines by the glass list last Friday, as we do every month, and included among the many bangers this month is the new Bromley 2022 Pinot Noir that has absolutely gone gangbusters ever since we started pouring it! It’s downright delicious autumnal drinking with fragrant dark berry fruit aromatics that mirror the complex flavour profile, with full textural suppleness and succulence tempting you back for another glass. Winemaker Darren Bourke reckons it’s his best yet, and I must say I heartily agree…cheers, Jon 😊🍷🤘

Just tasted all the new releases from Mulline Wines yesterday and my oh my, we have some damn good wines coming our way. I’ve talked a lot about Ben Mullen and his wines over the years, and his steady rise in the world of wine. He’s really built up an amazing portfolio of local vineyards from across our region, gaining access to some seriously good fruit, and in his deft hands the results have been truly impressive - none more so than these new releases. I know many of these vineyards from previous incarnations and given Ben’s unique and considered approach, he has been able to really capture and show just what these vineyards are capable of.
I can’t stress this enough - get on board people, just get on board, before the rest of the wine world wakes up. Cheers Jon😊🍷

Happy/Sad…

Well, the day finally came last Saturday…this legends last shift at GCD. Max, who I believe has one of the best wine palates for his age in the region, has been an important part of our team for nigh on 6 years (with a little break in between). His deep love and knowledge of all things vinous made everyone’s experience here such a pleasure and his welcoming smile and cheeky dry sense of humour certainly made us laugh. He’s recently married and moved into his new home in regional Victoria to begin the next chapter in his life with his lovely wife April. We wish them both the very best in their future together, and from all of us here, we heartily thank you Max for being a part of our journey…onwards and upwards! cheers!!🥂🙏😊

Great day yesterday with staff at the Cellarhand 25th Anniversary industry tasting event at Zinc Fed Square. Tried a plethora of fantastic wines from all around the world, the German Rieslings being a particular highlight, alongside some iconic Australian wines closer to home like Mount Mary and Yeringberg up in the Yarra Valley, but hey, the current release By Farr’s from our own backyard here in Geelong were simply outstanding…can’t emphasise enough just how lucky we are to have a producer of such high standard in our region…🤘🍷

It’s important to always celebrate the many special moments in our lives, both big or small, and today we celebrate 7 lucky years - so Happy Birthday to us! It’s been a fantastic journey so far and we feel truly blessed. We couldn’t have come thus far without the incredible support from all those concerned, all those that have worked with us across the years past and present, our family and friends, the producers who do all the hard work and create such beautiful wines (and beers and ciders!), our suppliers, our lovely Little Malop Street precinct community, and last but not the least, we especially appreciate and humbly thank all our lovely customers for their patronage and amazing support, it makes it all so worthwhile, incredibly, it still feels like we’re the new kid on the block somehow! At last! Bannockburn Vineyards have finally released their long awaited debut Gamay, and it’s an absolute ripper!! This fantastic grape variety is really starting to take off in our region and this wine certainly raises the bar IMHO. We don’t have a huge amount as it’s super limited so come in for a glass while we still have it on pour…last nights new menu launch saw it warmly received with glowing feedback…best be quick me thinks! Cheers 😀🍷❤️ #
