TC Tiny
I’m a construction artist from Victoria, specialising in bushfire resistant Tiny Houses on wheels
TC Tiny has reluctantly closed its doors, without ongoing contracts and with rising costs the business has become unsustainable.
After 15 years of self employment across a multitude of different industries I'm exhausted, proud, injured, relieved and looking forward to simpler job where I think less and earn more.
Thankyou to all the supporters, customers, assistants and collaborators from the Tiny House world and from back in the good old playground building days.
I've cleared out the workshop and sold all my tools so there is zero chance of me making comeback. All my articles and documents for the last 5 years are still available on my website for now and I'll leave this page open along with Instagram for the near future.
Tom.
Important notice: I do not currently have any Tiny House contracts in the pipe line, a few plans fell through last minute which has left me with an empty workshop. As a result I will soon be closing the Tiny House business in favour of pursuing a career in Design.
For anyone considering purchasing a TC Tiny, there is still time to make it happen but please don't delay. Tiny House building is an expensive habit so I won't keep the business open past July without contracts.
I would love to build more of these, The Ned Kelly has 6 years of development behind it, utilises 20 years of skills and about a century of science.
There are a few houses on the ground which still sit within their 12 month warrantee, I'll still honour the products until the end of that period.
Cheers,
Tom.
Tiny house geek out time.
Freshly written article about designing glass into a tiny house. within it I attempt to explain the complexities, pros and cons of glass and the effect that it has on the Build and the Tiny living experience.
For my more geeky followers, here's a brief article about the strong links between Bushfire protection and emissions reduction.
It's based on my own Tiny houses but I believe this link is true of all fire resilient houses and is worthy of further investigation.
It's posted on my website along with all my articles from previous years.
Best delivery ever!
Rick, Kez and the Uni-Mog towed the Ned Kelly from Geelong to central NSW and up a dirt track to a height of 500m altitude.
It was a sight to see on the roads, attracting attention from every direction.
Great little video by a local filmmaker, sampling everything this expo had to offer
My visit to the Sydney Tiny Home Expo It's been a really long time of mine to own a tiny home, and when I heard about an event promoting tiny homes, I decided to attend it. And I had such a good ...
Opening Day at the Hawksburry Tiny Homes Expo, it’s huge show with excellent quality, don’t miss out if you are in NSW.
Great expo so far, 2 days left if you are keen to see this house before it vanished into the NSW hinterland.
6 years ago I took my first Tiny house commission, it was a different era for Tiny houses and for my business. for the cost of a modern trailer, I knocked up a 4.2 metre tiny bedroom for Warrukan Eco village in Eastern Gippsland.
The village has since closed down and the Tiny needed a new home so yesterday I spent the day with it's owner, Sam Alexander, and towed the house to a bushy block in Castlemaine. Two Tinys back to back now form the start fo a new homestead.
She towed well and was in pretty good condition considering the materials at hand for the build and forested location.
A long day but very satisfying.
For all the Bushfire geeks, just uploaded to my Website is a very detailed write-up of the Fire Proofing techniques used on my Tiny houses.
It's now 5 years since I first started down this path, in that Time I have gathered a lot of information and made many innovations for both Tiny houses and houses in general. All that info is now easily accessible for anyone interested.
This document is the culmination of a lot of work, it came together very quickly thanks to good help from Simon Kerr and Samuel Alexander. It is based on my last build however most of the techniques and materials have been used on my previous houses and are still being developed on my current build, soon to leave the workshop. The purpose is to invite scrutiny of these techniques so they can be added to the list of solutions for an ever growing problem.
If you would like to see these techniques being used then the Tiny Homes Expo in Geelong is the best place to be, I will have a completed house there in March.
Finally got this house delivered to the grampians.
BAL 40, zero carbon emissions, off -grid and luxurious tiny house.
Many years before I built Tiny houses, pirate ship playgrounds were my jam.
After 9 years of being wasted on the enjoyment of children, The Black Sapphire, on the banks of the Maribyrnong river finally got its wings.
While I’m sure the children and parents liked the land based version. This is always how I envisioned it working.
Thanks to Brother Rob for the shots.
Thanks to Brigid Blackney and Renew for this great piece about the Book Bunker. It's a well publicised piece of construction which is becoming even more important. The real toll of displacement and income loss from fire and floods in this country has become even more apparent in recent times.
This is also a great reminder that not all objects are replaceable, possessions do form a large part of our identity, culture and lifestyle.
Renew is also searching for Australia's most fire resilient homes and the techniques used to create them. I'm looking forward to seeing what will come out of this search.
It's a four page article, available in print only. https://renew.org.au
My birthday present to myself this year was a new factory.
I'm now permanently setup in the Geelong suburb of Breakwater.
My latest project is nearing lock-up stage. I'll be posting updates shortly.
Tech Graphics did the signage using the logo designed by Patrick Tucker.
Thanks to Lucy Lich for her weekly tiny house podcasts, this was a recent interview we did regarding my bushfire tiny houses.
There is a whole series of podcasts on her channel which are well worth a listen.
THC 019: Bushfire Resilience and Tiny Homes with Tom Coupe - Tiny House Conversations In episode #019 of Tiny House Conversations, Lucy Lichtenstein and her guest, Tom Coupe from TC Tiny, discuss bushfire resilient tiny homes.
Finally at home in the forest!
