Lamprais, commonly also written as “Lumprice”, is a Sri Lankan dish that was introduced by the country's Dutch Burgher population.
Lamprais is a parcel of food wrapped inside a banana leaf and heated in the oven to release the aromas. It takes hours to put this delicious concoction together.
Lockdown baking. Sri Lankan fish buns. Soft buns filled with spicy tuna and potato mix. Best served with some chilli sauce.

Wattalappum is a creamy Sri Lankan dessert made with Kithul Hakuru (Palm sugar), coconut milk, eggs and nutmeg. No special meal is complete without Wattalappum. Just finished doing this for a special 60th bday lunch 🙂

A unique Sri Lankan Fish Ambul Thiyal. A dry black fish curry made with Goraka (Garcinia Cambogia) black pepper and chilli. Goroka is a natural preservative so this dish can be kept without refrigeration .

An Introduction to Sri Lankan Cuisine Sri Lankan food is not for the timid eater: the fiery curries, sweet caramelized onion in seeni sambal (onion relish), and sour lime pickle are all powerful flavors that startle awake senses dulled by the thick, hot island air.
Fresh coconut is a key ingredient and used in a range of dishes including sambols, vegetable dishes and desserts. Freshly scraped coconut can also be served as a dish on its own to accompany boiled Tapioca and Sweet Potatoes.
