Xyris is looking for two junior front-end developers to join our development team. We offer a fun, inclusive and team-oriented culture. This is an opportunity for you to be exposed to the development of a complex and interesting front-end, using the latest technologies, all while being mentored by skilled and experienced developers.
This short-term position, based in the Brisbane CBD, starts Friday 7 July 2023 and runs to 15 December 2023. Interviews commence 19 June 2023. The salary is $55,000 per annum plus superannuation, paid fortnightly. We provide a flexible work environment with Tuesdays and Thursdays as optional work-from-home days.
Although this position ceases on 15 December 2023, you’ll accrue annual and sick leave entitlements while working with us as a full-time employee.
About us
Xyris is the leader in the Australia New Zealand nutrition software space, with over 30 years in business. Our Foodworks software for nutrition professionals is widely used in hospitals, universities, and private clinics as well as in food manufacturing companies.
Our diet tracking app for consumers, Easy Diet Diary, is used by thousands every day. We’ve developed many iterations of our products to create an amazing experience for our users who are analysing diets, recipes and meal plans and working with nutrition
labelling of food products.
Is this position for you?
This position is suitable for you if you:
• Have completed (or have nearly completed) a degree in IT, computer science or a relevant branch of engineering
• Have a few personal programming projects to show us.
• Are able to work full-time.
• Have some existing experience with Typescript (or JS), React, HTML and CSS.
• Feel comfortable asking questions and getting help.
About the role:
We're currently rebuilding our cloud-based product offerings to enhance scalability, introduce new features, and integrate with our free mobile app, Easy Diet Diary. We’re using the latest technologies, rebuilding our existing front-end in Typescript (React). In this position, you’ll be focussing on building features and UI in the Foodworks project. You’ll be working in and learning the latest technologies and methodologies within an established and stable company. Our team is friendly, enthusiastic and energetic, and you’ll be mentored by skilled and experienced developers.
We’ll ensure that the work given to you matches your skill level so that you’re challenged and learning new things every day. We don’t ‘bubble wrap’ our junior developers – your code and your work will make a big difference to the production application.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Front-end development
• Code reviews
The tech stack you will work in includes:
• Typescript/React front-end
• GitLab
If you want to work with a friendly team, have opportunities to upskill with the latest technologies, and make a real and positive impact on the health outcomes of people in Australia and New Zealand, then you’ve found the right position.

Last week (Nutrition Society Conference) I had the pleasure to chat with Kiah Peterie. Kiah has been doing some wonderful things in the north of the country. I asked Kiah to answer a couple of questions to tell us a little more about her journey since graduation. Here is Kiah's response (and some awesome pics). For anyone else wanting to share your stories, feel free to get in touch. We love hearing about the impact you're making...
1. Tell us what you remember about your program and your cohort?
I graduated from the Masters In Nutrition and Dietetics in 2015 (I believe I was in the final Masters cohort). We had a mixture of Masters and Bachelor students finish the final two years together. It was a great group of people and I had a lot of fun during my time at Griffith University.
2. What have you been doing since graduation?
After graduation I worked for a short time at Cairns Hospital where I had done my final placement. I then moved into private practice for a little over a year working in GP clinics, an indigenous medical service and a private hospital. It was a really varied role and I got the chance to work out what I was really interested in, and passionate about.
3. Tell me about your current role?
Currently I am working in the Northern Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service in Far North Queensland in an Allied Health Rural Generalist Trainee Position (AHRGTP). The AHRGTPs are positions that are aimed to support early career professionals in gaining rural generalist capabilities. It involves a funded study component and dedicated study time, similar to a rural generalist medical training pathway, as well as a service development project.
I am based on Thursday Island with a senior dietitian and we provide inpatient and food services to Thursday Island and Bamaga Hospital, outreach services to 20 distinct communities across the Northern Peninsula Area and the Outer Islands of the Torres Strait and community and health promotion activities across the district. It is a varied and unique position that I really enjoy and find incredibly rewarding.
4. What advice would you give those currently studying dietetics?
Be open-minded and try to get exposure to a variety of areas and roles.
Megan Rattray discusses her research on patients perspectives of eating after colorectal surgery. Well done Megan!
Great to see Dr Rati Jani - GU alumnus - present at the Nutrition Society of Australia meeting. Now doing great things at The University of Canberra.
Congratulations Melanie! Well deserved.
We won!!! I was so shocked! Up against so many amazing Dietitians, but just love what we do. It’s such a privilege. I couldn’t have done it without my AMAZING team - Brittany, Gabby, Amy, Kathlene, Kayla and Lee. Thank you for all your hard work and passion helping women to conceive and have healthy babies.
