In the realm of cancer care, the term “palliative care” often evokes mixed emotions.
Palliative care is about providing a compassionate and holistic approach to caring for individuals with serious, life-limiting illnesses. It aims to enhance quality of life, helping people to maintain their independence and live their life as fully and as comfortably as possible.
It is often given to people with advanced cancer, but palliative care can be used at any stage when cancer is active.
If you or someone you know is affected by cancer and you’d like to talk, we are here. Call Cancer Council on 13 11 20 for our free, confidential telephone support service in each state and territory.

Do you know the difference between hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia? Now you do!👇
When you eat carbohydrates, they get broken down in your digestive system and absorbed into the blood as glucose (a type of sugar).
It's normal for your blood glucose levels to vary at different times during the day depending on whether you've eaten, or how active you are. 🥪🏃
But, if your blood sugar levels get really low (hypo) or really high (hyper) you can feel unwell. This is usually experienced by people with diabetes.
If you're experiencing a hypo, you should quickly eat something sugary like jellybeans or fruit juice to bring up your blood glucose levels.
When a person with diabetes experiences a hyper, they can manage this by exercising, avoiding sugary foods and taking their insulin (a hormone that takes glucose out of the blood and into your organs).
To learn more about glucose, insulin, and how they do their thing in your blood, check out episode 4 of our brand-new podcast, It Can't Hurt To Ask. 🎧

From Joanne, "Only another survivor of stroke can understand what we go through.
It’s been 15 months since I walked into the local hospital saying, “I think I am having stroke.”
I was monitored for about an hour and told, "go home and come back for a CT scan in the morning."
Nothing was found on the scan, and I was again told, "nothing is wrong with you."
But I knew something was wrong, and I told the treating team so. I feel like I was hit over the head; I was told to see my GP.
I made an appointment with the next available GP. The GP knew as soon as he saw me that something wasn't right and insisted, I get an MRI.
I am forever grateful to that GP. The MRI revealed I had had two strokes. Read more on EnableMe: https://bit.ly/4dlwUoI
