It's Men's Health Week this week. To mark the occasion Dr Sanil Nair, one of NIIM's Integrative General Practitioners, has shared some of his top men's health tips to help you or someone close to you on their journey to better health.

- Staying active regularly with aerobic and resistance training will help in reversing chronic metabolic diseases.

- Regular checkups of new symptoms are vital. Symptoms such as fatigue, low s*x drive, and er****on dysfunction could be signs of cardiovascular disease.

- One in five men in Australia experience anxiety at some stage in their lives. It can have debilitating effects on physical health. Discuss these symptoms early on with your healthcare professional for a comprehensive plan.

We’re excited to announce that Dr Christabelle Yeoh is scheduled to present at the 9th Annual NIIM Symposium in September!

Dr Yeoh has over 2 decades clinical care experience, most of which has focused on understanding root causes of chronic disease. She works with her patients to optimise digestive health, microbiome, mitochondria and brain performance. She applies the premise that dysfunctions can be corrected with established practices of nutritional and environmental medicine. Dr Yeoh is passionate about sharing her in-depth knowledge on the interconnectedness of human metabolism, biology and behaviour. Dr Yeoh dedicates her practice to working with patients with complex chronic conditions, neuro-immune mediated or chronic inflammatory illness. In her presentation, Dr Yeoh will explore mitochondria epigenetics to build a context of energy supply and demand. She will dive into the biophysics components that have built our evolutionary systems from the ground up. This discussion will provide healthcare practitioners with the basis, for the foundation of mitochondrial health and vital force.

Be quick to secure your early bird tickets by 1st June! Book now via the link in bio.

Winter is just around the corner, which means cooler weather is soon on its way. It’s a good time to remember our body’s Vitamin D needs. Speaking on the importance of Vitamin D, our founder Professor Avni Sali says; 'Humans are similar to outdoor plants, we cannot survive without sunshine. Low Vitamin D can also lead to depressed mood. Sunshine also boosts our serotonin levels, thus improving our moods. My prescription for good health includes daily exercise, daily sunlight exposure, adequate sleep and healthy diet including supplementation where necessary, e.g. Vitamin D, and a good dose of dark chocolate! It is important the Vitamin K2 is taken in conjunction with Vitamin D to ensure that the extra calcium absorbed is deposited in bone and not in the coronary arteries.'

What should you expect from your first consultation with a NIIM Integrative General Practitioner?
An initial consultation with one of our Integrative General Practitioners at NIIM is usually 45 to 60 minutes. These longer consultations are important to thoroughly identify and address the underlying causes of your health issues and start to implement a management plan.
During this visit, the GP will gain a thorough and holistic insight into your health and individual needs. This foundational understanding is crucial for developing a comprehensive, personalised care plan. You will feel empowered to manage your health confidently, supported by your integrative GP.

Your initial consultation may involve:
- Overviewing your medical history and listening to your ‘story’. You will not be rushed. All parts of your story are important to us.
- Understanding your physical health symptoms, as well as mental and emotional health symptoms.
- Assessing lifestyle factors and how they may be affecting your health, such as sleep, diet, movement, stress and environment.
- Reviewing any recent medical tests you have had and/or identifying tests you may need.
- Developing a holistic, comprehensive, personalised care plan, which may involve lifestyle/diet changes, supplements, further testing and/or consultation with other members of the NIIM health team (such as our psychologist or TCM practitioner).

To discuss your needs and book an appointment with an Integrative General Practitioner at NIIM: book online at niim.com.au, email [email protected] or call (03) 9804 0646.
