The Weltron 2001 Spaceball came with 2 different types of 8-track player. The player with a belt drive mechanism below the loading slot has the tape head held in alignment with a white plastic bracket which has a screw thread though it. Over the years this screw under tension causes the plastic head holder to crack causing problems and we'd say 75% of Weltron 2001 with this tape player have a cracked bracket.

Eventually the cracks starts to impact the quality of the tape playback, which is really a prelude to total failure as the bracket breaks and the tape player simply won't work at all, and there are no spare brackets available. We've come up with a solution which, if applied early enough, will stop the cracks in their tracks and save your Weltron from the total 8-track failure.

We've developed an enclosed shroud that slips over the existing bracket and when glued in position with epoxy becomes a stronger unit than when it was all new.

The shroud has been designed for maximum strength whilst also not interfering with either the existing mechanism movement or the loading of a standard 8-track tape

We have developed a replacement lighting kit for the early Weltron 2005 with a metal internal frame (2005m)

As 2005m owners probably already know it's a VERY different electrical system inside with probably only the speakers being common to both metal and plastic framed versions! It's also an extremely hard unit to work on as everything is hard wired (no simple, removable plug-in boards on the metal version). So making our kit easy to install has been a tricky process...until now

This all-in-one kit can be used to fully refurbish your Weltron 2005m lighting experience. If you have attempted changing the lights in a Weltron you know what a nightmare it is to find the correct bulbs; even more difficult when replacing the bulbs with LEDs that match the lighting quality of the original bulbs. Also the original bulbs ran hot and during removal of the old bulb the grommet would crack or crumble adding to the restoration hassles

This is a kit that replaces all of the bulbs and grommets, eliminates the trial and error of finding the appropriate replacement bulb, simplifies the wiring process and updates the bulbs to more efficient modern LEDs that are at the appropriate brightness. This kit saves a lot of time and frustration, ensuring a better lighting experience than the original Weltron when it was new!

After nearly 50 years of use the bulbs, leads and mounting grommets will be fragile leading to bulb failure. These old bulbs generate a LOT of heat and are increasingly hard to find especially with the correct diameter, amperage and attached leads required by the Weltron.

Our new kit replaces all 12 bulbs with specially selected low energy LEDs. There's quite a science involved as you need just the right brightness and just the right beam angle otherwise you'll end up with bright blue-white intense spots of light which are not at all suitable for the classic Weltron. We've done all the hard work for you and matched each bulb to its power supply (in the Weltron some are DC some are AC) and its purpose and apart from their crisp brightness you'd never know they were modern LEDs. And we've worked hard to ensure they are totally visually flicker free and the STEREO indicator LED has a special wiring harness that makes it act just like the old incandescent bulb did (only lights when on stereo)

For each of the LEDs we've commissioned a special grommet to hold it in place and replace the old cracked grommets, all grommets are unique to the 2005m and 2007m version. Plus the under dial grommet is designed to accommodate both different styles of light holder fitted to the 2005m (one has round holes, the other has slotted holes)

To further enhance the visuals we've added some new features. The lit 'stereo' light which even with the original globes would only brightly light the 'ere' in 'stereo' now has a custom made diffuser that lights up the whole word 'stereo'... it looks very good. Also due to age many of the coloured lenses in the Weltron are a little faded, so the red stereo indicator lens can look pink etc so to get around this we've used colour matched LEDs that effectively restore the red lenses back to their factory colour.

The 4 light 8-track program indicator strip has been redesigned and now includes a custom light shade to stop light bleed between the program indicators and of course the very unique combination of blue and green program indicators has been retained and this is unique ONLY to the 2005 with a metal frame!

During testing we've fitted a number of these kits and they really make the Weltron sparkle and light up like a spaceship plus the LEDs have less draw on the transformer and run totally cool

Please note you will need basic soldering skills to join existing wires to each of the new kit lights.

On the 2005m nothing is easy to work on but when you have exactly the right parts and VERY detailed instructions to hand it is definitely do-able and worth the effort

2 x tagstrip modules that convert and rectify AC volts to the wide angle diffused DC LEDs in the record compartment

1 x 'stereo' diffuser/grommet

1 x dial light wiring plug/finisher

Finally we have found the perfect replacement telescopic antenna to fit the Weltron 2001 Spaceball *

Very few original antennas ever survived as they were so easily bent and snapped.

We now have available an almost perfect bolt-on replacement. It's dimensions are almost exactly that of the original (max length from body is 510mm, the original was 550mm) and it has the all important internal tube stem (so it can be fully retracted) but also retains the ability to be extended and angled in all directions. Simply unscrew what's left of the old antenna and bracket and replace with our new antenna and bracket. Connect the internal antenna wire(s) and it's done, a 5 minute job

We provide 2 different antenna styles: the STANDARD antenna has a default factory finish tip and the DELUXE version has a square tip very similar to the original (see photos)

Restoration Weltron 2003 Speaker Trim - Refurbish your 2003 speakers to look like new

Early 2003 speakers were made with see-through plastic over chrome surrounds and later versions used dark grey foam. After 50 years the see-through plastic has yellowed and become cloudy giving a patch gold appearance to the chrome and most of the grey foam will simply have disintegrated (see photos)

The chrome trim is a special Weltron custom design and is no longer available but we now have in stock dark grey rubber trim to replace both styles of trim. These are very high quality, colour-fast, no-shrink, dense rubber trims, cut exact and dead square and when fitted the join is near impossible to see.

It is different from the original k**b but looks authentic as it's quite separate from the other k**bs. It is 1mm wider, and 2.5mm taller than the original k**b but this difference is very hard to notice.

We are happy to announce that we have developed a Bluetooth kit for those Weltron 2007s with a metal internal frame.

The electrics in these Weltrons are totally different from the more common plastic frame versions, everything is hardwired with not a plug-in module anywhere!

In the photos you can see what we mean by an internal metal frame but an external clue is the 2 reset buttons below the speaker connections, if they are there you probably have the metal version (always best to check by looking inside though!)

2007 (metal) owners will already know that their machine is extra difficult to work on, but they'll be pleased to know that our kit requires no soldering or component changes, the Bluetooth kit can be fitted in about 15 minutes and needs just a screwdriver, pliers and a 6mm drill. After installation you can play music or podcasts directly from your phone/tablet to the Weltron, in fact you can even record your Spotify playback to a cassette tape!

Our re-engineered hinges for the 2005/2007 are currently all sold out but don't panic - we're working on it!

Back in stock - brand new retro style high quality shielded speaker cables for connecting the Weltron 2005/2007 to the external 2006 speakers (with on-board RCA sockets, see photos and later notes)

These speaker cables are custom made to our specifications. They are not clunky like cheap modern audiovisual cables but are incredibly flexible and lightweight, plus they are fully shielded with oxygen free copper single core cables (again cheap cables have no shielding which allows noise to interfere with speaker playback).

They are so much better than the cables that originally came with the Weltrons which are now all a bit stiff and were always totally unshielded from outside interference (less of a problem in the 70s). The new cables come with nice retro RCA connectors which perfectly suit the era of the Weltron

Cables are now available in just 2 lengths 1.4m and 2.8m and are still sold separately so if you want a pair that are different lengths that is no problem. Plus if you want 2 cables with all black connectors (which is how Weltron supplied their cables in the 70s) just order 2 black cables

Note: these cable have RCA connectors at both ends so may not be suitable for some Weltrons. For example, some Weltrons had 2 pin connectors (pin and flat bar) and some Weltron speakers had no RCA socket with the speaker wires soldered directly to the speakers system

This jolly chap asked us to fit the Bluetooth kit, cassette kit, BSR kit, lighting kit and a new (Chromium ) lid for him. We were happy to oblige but only when we delivered it and met the reindeer in the back yard did we realise why he's so busy in December. For obvious reasons we can't divulge his address but as a worldwide scoop we can say Santa lives in Launceston Tasmania, not too far from the South Pole

After nearly 6 months of prototyping we are excited to announce that we now have a totally plug'n'play Bluetooth module for 2005 and 2007 Weltrons with the 3 pin plug on the powerboard as per the photo with the yellow arrow. We are working on plug'n'play cable options for the other variations of the 2005 and 2007 - coming soon!

The module fits inside the Weltron using existing mounting lugs and plugs in directly to the existing low voltage system - no soldering required! It's housed in a unique case designed to keep the components cool and running at maximum efficiency whilst also separating the Bluetooth module from the existing Weltron boards to ensure no interference occurs. The only modification the Weltron requires is the drilling of a discreet 6mm hole in the Weltrons right-hand lifting recess for the bluetooth on/off switch.

Installation takes around 5-10 minutes, and the kit includes a blue LED that can be either totally disabled or positioned wherever you want, again no drilling is required as it uses removable velcro

This kit really enhances the usability of your Weltron. You can stream music via apps like Spotify, control volume, track lists, skip or repeat tracks all from up to 12m distance from the Weltron!

The last three 2007s we've worked on have had the same age related problem, the mounting lugs for the rear input/output panels had crumbled to nothing and the panels weren't very well secured. So we developed what we call a 'lugfix', a 3D printed component that fits over what's left of the original lug and provides a new and very secure mounting point so you can refasten the rear panels. There is a left-hand and a right-hand version and they are designed to really grip/support the old lug and surrounding area when glued to the existing internal Weltron shell. They work well and are totally invisible from the outside and all you need to fit is some epoxy adhesive, a knife, a screwdriver and some alcohol cleaning swabs!
