When your favorite supplier sends you a practical and personalised gift that makes your day!
I get such a kick out of finding the perfect organising solutions to suit each family and TidyAF is my go-to for everything draw organising. Keeping everything neat and tidy not only makes life easier but also means that everyone can help when it’s time to clean up.
We custom designed our kitchen draws a while back and I just LOVE them. Now I could have posted the picture perfect photo but life isn’t like that so here’s a look at what my kitchen draws look like in real life. Don’t they look stunning!
Big thanks to Lisa and the team at .af_!
That’s a wrap….. thank you to all of you who have followed my journey this year. A special mention to past and present clients, suppliers, friends and family and of course the heart behind my business all the lovely families of Hobart that have received your kind donations this year.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a great start to 2024. I still can’t believe it’s here already. 🎄
Tip 1: If you’re stuck on what to get for the kids. Try the three-gift rule, picking items from categories like need, want, wear, read, share, and do. You can pick as many as your budget allows. For us, we do a mix of every year as we also have birthdays to buy for at as well.
Tip 2: Suggest pooling resources with your family for a special item or experience for the kids rather than multiple gifts you have to find room for in your home.
Tip 3: Creating a Secret Santa Swap is a fun way to continue gift giving without the expense of purchasing individual gifts for everyone.
Tip 4: Use a Christmas Gift app like Draw Names where everyone can list the type of thing they might like, such as something for the garden. This works especially well for large workplaces; this way, you can gift something the person would appreciate and use. All you need to do is set a budget, add the email addresses and the rest is done for you.
Tip 5: Add a bit of fun to your Christmas event and play Stolen Santa or “Dirty Santa”. There are a lot of different names for this game, here is a link on how to play www.dirtysantarules.com.

Did you know that most wrapping paper isn't recyclable?
Most mainstream wrapping paper is lined with a combo of foil and plastic with some glitter thrown in too. This means all your Christmas wrap will be going into landfill.
So what's the alternative?
When purchasing gift wrap look for 100% paper or craft paper so it can be recycled. These are readily available at all the major stores these days including Officeworks and Spotlight.
Here are some other ideas for gift wrapping:
1. Try Japanese Furoshiki (foo|roh|shee|kee) fabric wrapping. You can use any fabric you already have or there are some beautiful ones you can purchase and reuse for years to come.
2. Reuse tissue paper or bags that you've been sent in the post.
3. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to wrap without tape, and they look amazing. I’ve even seen a video where they wrap the gift and create a cute little pocket for the card to sit in!
4. Use the wrap as part of the gift. A box, basket, or crate can be used in the home or regifted.
5. Create Christmas gift tags from the Christmas cards you've been sent this year. Keep the ones from this year in your decoration box, ready for next year.
6. Get the pens and paints out and have the kids create some personalised wrapping paper. Here in Hobart, Veolia collects our recycling. I've confirmed with them as long as your little Picasso isn't using plastic stickers, glue, crayons or glitter (except biodegradable glitter) on the artwork it's recyclable.
A client recently showed me a birthday card that she and her mother had been writing in for years. Each birthday, it’s passed back to the other person. Such a lovely idea and you can't write the same thing each year!

Another amazing client review. Thanks again Bec for your kind words. 💕
“I simply cannot speak highly enough of Helen and the work she does. Helen’s organisational and decluttering skills are incredible and these, combined with her professionalism, intuition, understanding and friendly, supportive manner have made a huge difference in my home.
My home feels calmer, lighter and I feel as if a weight has been lifted from me …. I now have some strategies to keep on top of things and I don’t feel so overwhelmed at the list of things to do!
Engaging Helen’s services was an investment for the functioning of my family, our home and for my mental state! Absolutely highly recommend!”
It’s such a pleasure receiving feedback like this.
It wasn’t so long ago that we made the big move from the mainland to the Apple Isle just like Erin. I still remember how stressful it was moving and starting a job in a new place while getting settled in.
Have you or someone you know moved to Tasmania and need some help unpacking and settling in?

Let's get organised!
World Organising Day (WOD) is fast approaching! WOD is celebrated on May 20th every year to encourage people to declutter and organise their homes. While it may seem mundane, a good decluttering and organising session can improve the environment and quality of life for everyone in your home.
Studies have shown that an organised home can create a positive mood, reduce stress, and decrease overwhelm. A cluttered home usually means a cluttered mind as each item in your home carries with it a mental load and financial load, the less stuff you have in your home the less time you need to spend putting it away, cleaning it, having it repaired etc. Additionally, an organised home can improve sleep quality, which is essential for good mental health.
Here are a couple of tips to get you started:
1. Start with one room at a time and work in sections.
2. Always ensure a section is complete before moving on to the next, this will ensure you always know where you left off.
3. Only keep the things in your home that make you feel happy. If a dress comes with a sense of guilt or regret then it’s time to sell it, gift it to a friend or donate it.
World Organising Day is an essential reminder of the positive impact that organising your home can have on your mental and physical health. By taking the time to declutter and organise, you can create a sense of calm and control in your life, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve your overall well-being.
So, take some time to organise your home today and reap the benefits of a healthier and happier life!
Today is World Earth Day and you will see a lot of marketing about what you can do to be a more conscious consumer.
I want to share what we’re doing to be conscious as a business.
The story behind the name ‘The Organised Effect’ is to make an impact on the lives of our clients but also the community and environment around us.
♻️ After a decluttering session we take any unwanted items and find new homes so as little as possible goes into landfill. We’ve partnered with many charities across Hobart to help those who are doing it tough for whatever reason.
♻️We send your fabric waste for recycling. The fabric is then turned into insulation, pet bedding and flooring to name a few.
♻️ Constant research into new companies that take items for recycling.
♻️ We can recommend sustainable organising products.
♻️We only sell eco friendly products that we believe in and use in our own home.
♻️ We use compostable and recyclable mailers, packing materials and tape for postage.
♻️ When cleaning we use chemical free cleaning products.
♻️Create posts to help you clean your home without using chemicals.
♻️Help you to develop systems for your own home to reduce waste.
If you like this kind of content, like this post and share with someone who you think will enjoy this too.
Organisation isn’t about having the picture perfect house all the time. It’s about having systems that allow you to clean up quickly where everyone in your home can help.
If you hit the panic button at the thought of friends and family popping in unexpectedly it’s time to call in some help.
Schedule a free 30 minute consultation via our website or send us a DM.
Together let’s make room for what matters.
Keeping your home in order can feel like a full-time job.
There are three loads of washing on the couch to put away, stuff all over the floor, a kitchen bench that’s too cluttered to cook on, and a form to fill in…if only you could find a pen that works!
Sound familiar?
The mental load of keeping on top of daily life and years of accumulated stuff can be overwhelming.
If your home is cluttered, so is your mind – and your life.
And life is too short to live in a state of chaos and stress. Decluttering your home will transform your life.
Together, let’s make room for what matters.
This is how we do it! I love recycling day. After a client consult I make time to sort and get all donations to a new home. Today I’ve been able to donate so much from my recent clients and I’m definitely feeling all the feels!
This is the last of some linen that was too good for fabric waste so it’s off to a new home at our local vet clinic.
Perhaps I could be of some assistance!

‘But I have nothing to wear’ she said!
Have you ever looked into your overflowing wardrobe and wondered what you could possibly wear today?
Imagine what it would feel like if you only had the things in there that fit and made you feel great?
This is one of the advantages of hiring a professional organiser. They can walk you through the process and put systems into place that will help you declutter periodically so you don’t end up back where you are now.
When you have less in your wardrobe things are not only easier to find, you’re able to get dressed quickly and you end up feeling great all day.
If you need help getting your wardrobe organised send us a message via socials or through our website.
It’s always a pleasure to get feedback like this.
There are plenty of studies now showing the impact our clutter has on our mental health, especially for women.
If you’re not sure where to start, maybe try one draw or shelf. When you have time start the next one. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

What family traditions are you continuing this year, or will you be creating new ones?
If you know me, you know that I love books for children. In our family we have a basket of Christmas books that comes out every year. We read one book every night from the start of December until Christmas Eve. I love sitting quietly with the whole family and having this time to reconnect before bed time. My favorite books this year are:
📚 How Many Sleeps Till Christmas
📚 Leffy’s Christmas Gift
And of course… The Grinch Who Stole Christmas!
