Brilliant Psychological Drama: Read an Extract from The Accident by Katie McMahon | Better Reading It was one of those unimpeachable spring mornings, the type Hobart knew it was pretty good at. The breeze was suppleness and pleasure, the sun obvious but unchallenging. Sandstone buildings shaded electric bikes, school kids scrolled TikTok on buses, and coffee blessed grateful throats. Behind it al...

You Are Invited | Kate McMahon

We are delighted to host The Melbourne launch of Kate McMahon’s new book ‘The Accident’.
Kate will be in conversation with Jaye.
Jaye says - The Accident is a page turner with a creeping sense of dread as you realise the multi invisible social fault lines inch inexorably towards a collision with fatal consequences. This one is for fans of Liane Moriarty, who herself is a fan of Kate’s!

You are invited to join us for great conversation, a drink and some nibbles.
Sunday Sept 18
3 pm
Mary Martin Bookshop Port Melbourne
This is a free event but bookings are necessary.
Book via the link in our bio.

I really enjoyed chatting to the knowledgeable and lovely Janine for this podcast. (And how wonderful are libraries? I loved the hours I spent in the Hobart library, *researching* twenty-year-old Vogue magazines.)

Head to our website or your favourite podcast provider and check out the latest episode of Book Matters.

This month we celebrate debut authors with two author interviews - we speak to Emma Young from Perth, a former Bookseller. Her first novel "The Last Bookshop" is all about the weird and wonderful humans you meet over the bookshop counter.

We also chat to Katie McMahon, a GP from Tasmania as well as a writer. Her debut novel "The Mistake" is a tantalising and suspenseful read that will have you addictively turning the pages.

We won't be able to have our Melbourne event at Mary Martin Bookshop. Thanks so much to all concerned for the wonderful support. The event had booked out, so everything crossed we can do it another time. And very best wishes to all in Victoria.

Oh goodness, my book comes out today. The whole time I was writing it, people kept saying things like, 'Wow, you're brave to write a book,' and I kept thinking, 'But what's the issue with writing a book?' Anyway, now I know because today I'm terrified. Also, I'm overwhelmingly grateful to my wonderful family and friends who've just been so supportive, so kind, so generous and so enthusiastic. Thank you all so very much.

The Mistake - Fullers Bookshop 26/02/2021

I'm feeling like a proper grown-up because as of about ten minutes ago I have my very own website . . . I've even got blow-dried hair in the photo! There are also links where people can pre-order my book . . . It's at katiemcmahon.com.au

I'm beyond thrilled that one of my all time favourite writers - Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty - has been so generous with her encouragement of my first book. (Liane's books make me cry and laugh so much. Even when I'm on the fifth or sixth read. Even when I KNOW what's about to happen and I tell myself I won't cry this time . . .)

The Mistake by Katie McMahon. Coming this March.

For fans of brilliant storytelling, smart characters, clever humour and dark twists. A tantalising, suspenseful debut that will have you addictively turning the pages.

I've been sitting at my kitchen bench working away at this for the last couple of years. Excited and thrilled that it will be on sale from March 2nd!
