Writing a book is like running a marathon - itβs sometimes a lonely road that has no end in sight. But finish you must - nothing like the feeling of achievement on your own terms. Only one person wins the race - but everyone makes it in the end. Very proud of my fellow writer Annie Robson Author who is among the runners - in both the marathon and the writing.

What if you discovered your entire existence was based on a lie?
On a crisp autumn evening, in a small Japanese village, two women go into labour. What should be a moment of joy turns to tragedy as the life of only one child can be saved, and the life of one mother is sacrificed. Reiki, son of the deceased, tormented Countess Miho, and Australian journalist Roger Edwards is raised by the three strong women in his grandfatherβs household: Roku, the housekeeper, Haru, the ex-geisha, and kitchen maid Asami. When Japan declares war, Roger and Reiji are forced to return to Australia, and the carefully held secrets of Reijiβs birth start to unravel. What happened that night?
Will the words of the condemned Japanese prisoner of war unlock the secrets of Reijiβs existence, or will it take a confrontation with the women themselves?
From the ruins of the Pacific War, Reijiβs journey to his truth works backwards through the depravity and brutality of the war years as seen through the eyes and lives of Roku, Haru, and Asami.
Will Reiji be able to understand the lengths they went to, the strength they demonstrated and that a single truth seen through different eyes, will always mean different things.
So looking forward to this debut novel.

So excited to find my βwarriorβ. The original terra cotta warrior was my companion at the National Library when I completed research for my first book Writing Japanβs War. My metal warrior is just what it will take !
Not a bad place to start the edit βοΈ
Itβs a cold snap here in Hobart - but part one of my manuscript has been printed for the big red pen ποΈ
βRay began to count backwards in his head. A habit that had never been broken. A habit that Haru had taught him as a child to counter anything confronting in his life. Slowly, consciously forming each number with purpose and clarity. When he reached the last number, he realised the profoundness of the practice, especially to his life right now. Start at the end to end at the beginning.β
A Thousand Springs
I am so inspired by this amazing writer- Jo Dixon - her first book The House of Now and Then was a standout this year - so absolutely excited for the release of her 2nd novel next year. Watch this space - her trajectory is on the rise and I am very privileged to know her.
What if you discovered your entire existence was based on a lie ?
My novel βOne Thousand Springsβ based around the lives of three women in Japan in the first half of the 20th Century will show that a single truth seen through different eyes, will always mean different things.

I just spent a lazy morning in my pjs while the rain fell softly - finishing this book! Marvellous, delicious, scrumptious, fantabulous! What a wordsmith! I was drawn into each and every character, each and every place, each and every emotion. Highly recommend this intriguing book set here in my home state of Tasmania - and written by my writer pal Jo Dixon. Canβt wait for her next offering
