G’day! 👋🏽

Just thought we might jump on here and introduce ourselves. There’s been a bit happening lately at the Walk on kunanyi HQ with us deciding to put our heads together, in true Tassie fashion and create a partnership 🤝🏽

Andy: co-owner, lover of rocks, and actual mountain goat

I’ve lived on the foot hills of kunanyi / Mt Wellington all my life. It is an absolute honour for me to be able to share the stories that I’ve learnt. I know from my own travels, including walking in Nepal, that visiting the places where the natural and cultural intrigues reside makes the stories spring to life.

I continue to ‘play’ on the mountain whenever I can, be it running, climbing, riding or walking, and I’m still discovering new wonders. I’ve got a background in geology, teaching, business sustainability and managed the drinking water catchments on kunanyi / Mt Wellington for 8 years. Needless to say, I can rabbit on about these topics for yonks.

But my main job is raring two kiddies in the idyllic foothills of South Hobart trying to impart my love of the Tasmanian wilderness to the next generation. I hope I can do that for all our guests. But never fear, I won’t talk too much, because sometimes the best wanderlust quenching moments come from soaking up the surrounds in silence.

Matt: Co-owner, bird noticer and nature lover.

I grew up in lutruwita/Tasmania. Born out of deep passion for land, people and culture, coupled with an innate knowing of what it means to connect and be human has led to starting my journey into becoming a tour guide.

With 10 years experience guiding across Australia, from Tasmania to the Red Centre, from Kakadu to the Kimberley its seems fitting to share these skills with others to enrich their visit and create a unique experience.

See ya on the trails!

New profile pic incoming... 😛🦘

IG/katypotaty77 captured these cheeky locals striking a pose on top of kunanyi ( ) in nipaluna (Hobart & Beyond). When in Discover Tasmania's capital, carve out a moment to ascend this majestic peak. If you're up for an adventure, lace up your hiking boots and join a Walk on kunanyi guided hike to the summit. Or, if you're short on time, kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus offers quick trips between and the summit ⛰️

💩 posting

That’s what Tasmanian Devils are doing here, a bit of s #!t posting.

Or in scientific speak, communicating with other Devils via what is often referred to as a latrine.

A latrine is a site, often in a frequently shared or open area like a trail, (for ease of access) that devils will leave strongly scented gifts (like poo) to communicate to other devils who frequent that same area.

I was hiking along the Organ Pipes track when I came along these scats (poo) in the pictures and was wondering that they are trying to say??

Can you feel the warmer winds?

Spring is upon us and we can feel the warmer northerly winds coming in and the bird song coming in strong.

Such a beautiful time of year on kunanyi/Mt Wellington.

Time to hibernate?

Winter is a great time to slow down after all of summers fun and adventures. We find it's really a time to reconnect with our community, families, friends and ourselves.

Sitting in front of a fire and doing some personal journalling is a great way to reconnect with yourself in way that many of us don't.

On our Fire and Ice tour you can pick up, or hone your journalling practice with the benefits and skills you keep with you for a life time, with the added insight of just doing a guided cold plunge!

Hello moon! 🌝

I peeped outside this morning and had just enough time to grab my camera and snap these before the moon went behind - how lucky!

The beautiful thing about kunanyi is that nearly everyone gets a view in Hobart/nipaluna.

Thanks to Jess and the crew from who were down in Hobart for a conference 🥳

Always great to share our amazing backyard 🌿

The lush gullies on kunanyi are cool, literally.

With Tassie’s summer heat well and truly here you need somewhere to cool down ☀️ and kunanyi, she has you covered 🌿

Old man’s beard! 🎅🏽

No, we’re not talking about Santa this time! We’re talking about a lichen.

This particular one is around all year and you can check it out on any of our walks. It’s said to have many uses other than making jokes.

Can't wait to see this!

“Started from the bottom, now we’re here” ~ Drake

World famous musician Drake hasn’t done our Sea to Summit walk (yet) but for those who have get rewarded with that elated feeling of climbing one of the steepest bioclines in the world!🌏

Trading the people for trees as we head up, you’re able to really get to know kunanyi and all the stories she holds.

You can explore this and other walks through our website 💚

Current mood: Tasmanian Waratah (Telopea truncata)

Currently out in flower along the Organ Pipes Track and a real local favourite 😍

You’d often find our guides walking around with red smiles after sampling the sweet nectar that the flower produces in abundance 💋

You can also see most cars around nipaluna/Hobart sporting the Tassie Waratah stickers.

Can you tell we’re proud to be local?

kunanyi is a wonderous place. I walked from Sea to Summit yesterday taking in all the subtle changes from the city at sea level into the dry forest, wet forest and georgeous tree fern gullies. After lunch we moved through the sub-alpine choc full of endemic plants before reaching the summit plateau above the tree line with drifts of snow, shaggy wallabies and epic views in the afternoon sun. Being able to share the stories of this special place is such a privilege.

What To Do After Dark In – and Above – Tasmania This Winter 25/06/2022

We seem to be popping up in the news paper a bit! It's quite an honour to be listed in the Tourism Tasmanian special Broadsheet edition for our kunanyi stargazing tours.

What To Do After Dark In – and Above – Tasmania This Winter From stargazing on kunanyi/Mount Wellington to seeing the southern lights on the fringes of Antarctica to sipping whisky around the fire – Tasmania shines in the colder months. In partnership with Tourism Tasmania’s Off Season, we outline six after-dark experiences to add to your travel plans.

We love to explore

Taking it slow

We provide our walking guests with small group guided walking experiences on kunanyi / Mt Wellington that celebrate the natural wonders and intriguing stories. We believe that by slowing down and walking, the connection to place is deepened, our local guides enhance this through the sharing of their knowledge of the bush, birds and bandits that weave together to make kunanyi / Mt Wellington so special.

Safe and secure

When you join us on one of our walks we will make sure you feel safe, informed and well fed. Once reaching the start point of our walks we will go through a quick briefing and gear check then stroll away into the wilderness to hear the bird calls and inhale the brisk fresh air. We provide regular breaks to share our local knowledge with the group, providing an opportunity to catch your breath, take a photo and fill up on some of Tassie’s best produce. Once we reach our final destination, we’ll make sure there is time to take it all in, best done with a nice drink in hand.
