The Great White Whale at the State Cinema Hobart on August 25th and 26th at 6pm. It's about an epic 4000 kilometer sail through the wild seas from Sydney via Albany to Heard Island and back, in a schooner with no toilet. Many of the crew were novice sailors, one of them breaking the skipper's thumb on his first tack. The skipper/navigator was the legendary sailor explorer Bill Tilman.
Mathew Flinders was onboard the original Lady Nelson.
'Homecoming': Remains of British explorer Matthew Flinders finally laid to rest A renowned explorer who gave Australia its name has been reburied in the village of his birth in the United Kingdom.

Brig, a two masted vessel square rigged on both masts.
Brigantine, two-masted sailing ship with square rigging on the foremast and fore-and-aft rigging on the mainmast.
Lady Nelson has converted, albeit briefly from a Brig to a Brigantine.
Why? Because we are constantly refurbishing and maintaining the ship and we have removed the main mast yards, sails and rigging for some TLC.
The yards were trucked away to an undercover area. If you go down to the Lady Nelson you may see some of the crew working on the sails, rigging and blocks.
We are always after more volunteers, if this rocks your boat let the crew know.
