Last weekend, we held the annual IGD Christmas in July lunch at Dr. G and Tony's in the Huon Valley. OK, this year, it was in August. Staff and their partners attended an afternoon of overindulging in great food and wine, playing charades and having a great time.

This client was unhappy with the gaps, chips and colour of her top teeth. After discussing the various pros and cons of each veneer option with Dr Giselle Parker, she selected injection moulding. Her result is a beautiful example of the procedure.

We know you're all jealous that April gets to wear this gorgeous tie-dyed smock when she's pouring models to make mouthguard, etc. It's stunning, isn't it? We think it's time for an update, but the team loves it. No accounting for taste! 😍

🐕 Dr G's fur babies, Morti and Archie, want you to know it is Pet Dental Health Month.

Just like humans, pets can experience dental issues that lead to pain and discomfort. That's why Pet Dental Month is observed in August, aiming to increase awareness about the significance of dental care and hygiene for pets.

Please remember to make an appointment with your vet. The powers that be will frown on us seeing fur babies. 🤣🤣🤣

❓ Did you know acidic beverages like soft drinks and fruit juices can cause enamel erosion? 😬 The acid in these drinks can wear down the enamel, the protective outer layer of your teeth, leading to sensitivity, discolouration, and an increased risk of cavities.

To keep your smile bright and healthy:
• Limit your intake of acidic drinks
• Use a straw to minimise contact with your teeth
• Rinse your mouth with water after consuming acidic beverages
• Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth to avoid further enamel damage

This client of Dr Ian Gurner's was really unhappy with her crooked lower teeth, but now thanks to Invisalign, their smile has been completely transformed! Seeing the before and after pictures is truly inspiring. If anyone else is dealing with similar issues, I highly recommend considering clear aligner treatment – it's a game-changer!

On a sweltering day in January 1788, seven clan leaders gather on a sandstone escarpment overlooking the harbour. Beyond the friendly banter, protocols, and hospitality, a momentous decision is waiting to be made. A mysterious fleet of giant nawi is amassing in the harbour and as they creep closer, these seven representatives must choose unanimously: whether to send these strangers on their way or welcome them?

Cosmetic dentistry is the art and science of improving the appearance of your teeth, gums, and bite to give you a beautiful smile.

People who have cosmetic dental issues are often self-conscious about their smile. They may cover their mouth every time they talk or laugh, or they may not smile with their teeth in photos at all. Besides affecting your self-confidence, damaged or crooked teeth can affect your overall oral health.

The most common corrections we make fall into these categories:
🦷 Chipped teeth
🦷 Misshapen teeth
🦷 Crooked teeth
🦷 Discoloured teeth
🦷 Missing teeth
🦷 Worn teeth

Dental x-rays can be used to find:
🦷 tooth decay,
🦷 problems with past dental treatment,
🦷 bone loss around teeth due to severe gum disease,
🦷 tooth and bone fractures following an injury which has damaged the face or mouth,
🦷 abscesses, cysts, and tumours,
🦷 the development of the teeth under the gums and when they may push into the mouth.

The amount of radiation you are exposed to during a dental x-ray is much less than what you are exposed to from other everyday sources of radiation.

Smoking increases the likelihood of gum issues, tooth loss, complications post oral surgery, and developing oral cancer. Smokers are more prone to infections and experience slower healing compared to non-smokers.

Quitting smoking enhances oral health by reducing the risk of gum disease and oral cancer, and improving response to gum treatments.

Regular dental visits are crucial for smokers to maintain oral health, detect signs of oral cancer, and ensure healthy teeth and gums.

For individuals who v**e, regular dental check-ups are also essential to identify and address any potential oral health issues. It's important to inform your dentist if you v**e.

Five flirtatious "French" performers meet you at the door. They bring you in, they show you to your seat, they flirt with you. Maybe they fall a little bit in love with you. Then they tell a story – with you.

Like a wild dress-up party, The Trojan War tells the story of the tragic fall of Troy through theatrical magic, twisted pop songs and explosive wit. The most charming performers you can hope to meet play a revolving repertoire of outrageous characters.

Created and performed by A Slightly Isolated Dog, this New Zealand theatre company delivers a frantic and hilarious mash-up in the style of Monty Python meets The Mighty Boosh. Leave your inhibitions at the door and join us to explore hilarious parallels between war-torn ancient Greece and the chaos, confusion and absurdity of the present day.

Our professional opinion is that certain types of rechargeable electric toothbrushes will produce better results than a manual toothbrush but what is most important is not what type of toothbrush you use but that you brush your teeth correctly.

There are a few ways that fluoride protects teeth:
🦷 Fluoride reduces the amount of minerals that are dissolved from tooth enamel by acids produced by decay-causing bacteria.
🦷 Fluoride promotes tooth minerals being put back into tooth enamel in the early stages of tooth decay.
🦷 Fluoride stops mouth bacteria from processing sugar from food and turning it into acid which attacks the teeth.

Tooth whitening or bleaching is a safe and effective treatment to remove tooth discolouration if it is customised to your needs and delivered by a trained dental professional. Misuse or unmanaged treatment can result in irreversible damage to you and your teeth. Ian Gurner Dental Care offers take-home custom-fit trays and in-chair whitening procedures.

Tooth whitening with us begins with a visit to a highly trained oral health therapist to assess which treatment is best for you and professional teeth cleaning. This cleaning is essential as it removes the surface layer of plaque and staining that can impair the success of the whitening process.
