The weather is getting warmer, harvest is nearly underway, and it is time to get the boat out again. We all know the importance of putting sunscreen on our skin as temperature and UV levels increase heading into summer, but did you know your eyes are 10 times more sensitive to UV exposure than skin?
Now is the perfect time to call in and see our team about what protection we can offer your eyes over the summer.

Coming into summer this is your PSA to remind you that your glasses - clear or sunglasses - do NOT like being left in the car. The coatings on your lenses can withstand our summer to an extent but not being left in a 50+ degree car for any period of time.
The coating on your lens will crack and vision with them will then have an unclean appearance that is very irritating to try and see through. It will feel like they are smudged or dirty and nothing you do will get them clean.
This includes not being left in any part of your car. If your car is hot, so is under the seat, the glovebox and the console - especially that little compartment that is in the roof of your car specifically for your glasses. The hottest point 🥵
This can be a costly experience for expensive lenses so please, please remember and remind your family with prescription glasses that keeping them in the car is not on!

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are three times more likely as non-indigenous people to have low vision or be blind. The leading causes are unfortunately preventable or treatable, and include uncorrected refractive error ( the need for glasses to correct vision to ‘normal’ ), cataracts, complications from diabetes affecting the eyes, and infections such as trachoma.
During August, Swan Hill and Kerang Optical are promoting the importance of regular eye examinations to support eye health issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
To book a bill billed eye examination or for further information please call our Swan Hill or Kerang practice or you can book either clinic online at www.swanhilloptical.com.au

Vision changes to look out for after turning 40:
Difficulty reading or doing close work
The need for more light
Problems with glare
Reduced tear production
While some of these changes or conditions may be easily treated, some may be progressing without your knowledge, and could lead to permanent vision loss if undetected.
The earlier serious eye conditions are detected, the greater the chance of successful treatment and retaining good vision. Our team of optometrists at Swan Hill and Kerang Optical can provide comprehensive eye examinations to detect, diagnose, treat and monitor eye health problems, and prescribe glasses or contact lenses where required.
