The Kiama Jet Rescue Boat Service undertakes weekend beach surveillance patrols. These patrols focus on preventative actions and to provide support for lifesaving operations in the Kiama area. The Kiama Jet Rescue Boat Service with its unique jet propulsion system is able to access remote parts of the Kiama coastline to keep a close eye on swimmers, rock fisherman and recreational boat users as well as relay crucial information to lifesavers on the beach about any dangers such as sharks.
Today Kiama Jet Rescue boat (Surf Rescue 50) was recognised for one final time at the Kiama Council Australia Day Awards. Winning the Community group of the year.
This was to say thank you for the 47 years of service the dedicated crews have given to the Kiama community. Acknowledging the lives that have been saved.
Huge thanks to everyone of our members throughout the 47 years of service and well done!

Kiama SLSC
Come along to celebrate the 47 strong years of achievements of Kiama Jet Rescue Boat (Surf Rescue 50).
Kiama SLSC
End of an era.
Today on the 31st of July, 2022 there was a vote at the Kiama SLSCs Annual General Meeting into the continuation of Surf Rescue 50. Here it was voted that Kiama SLSC would no longer support Surf Rescue 50 and such have lost the support of the club, the South Coast Branch and SLSNSW.
We thank Kiama SLSC members and committees for their support of Surf Rescue 50. From the initial purchase and crewing of the three vessels we have had over the past 47 years, to long time supporters of Surf Rescue 50, these actions have no doubt saved many lives over the years.
We wish luck to Surf Rescue 30 and Ballina Jet Boat Rescue who will in the coming months be transferred to Marine Rescue NSW. Leaving 50 as the last Jet Rescue Boat to be completely affiliated with SLSNSW.
Established in 1975 from an era when Jet Rescue Boats dotted the coastline until there were two highly specialised units from Ballina and of course Kiama.
In the units 47 years of operations countless lives had been saved through patrolling actions and emergency callouts.
None of which would be possible without our loyal and dedicated crew and supporters over all those years to those people we say thankyou.
As for our current crew we will continue to patrol our coastline from our local clubs and other Support Operations, with SLSNSW generously supplying a Jet Ski to be stationed within Kiama Harbour.
Once again thankyou to our members past and present for Surf Rescue 50 have always been a unit driven by our highly dedicated and skilled members. That for 47 years have come together in times of hardship and peril, from bushfires to extreme weather events to save lives. So thankyou all for your hard work, commitment and passion to work on Surf Rescue 50 under Surf Life Saving NSW .
Surf Rescue 50 signing off.
Yesterday the 10th of January at 7:16pm Surf Rescue 50s emergency response team was activated alongside and a Helicopter after reports that a Kayaker had capsized their craft and hadn't returned to shore.
Surf Rescue 50 and a Duty Officer were the first on scene and quickly commenced a search of where the person was last seen, including liasing with another Kayaker who had started searching for the person after hearing calls for help from the beachfront.
Surf Rescue 50 commenced a search of the area and a short time later found the man clining to his kayak, his life jacket inflated. He was brought aboard and assessed for injuries before being taken to Gerroa boat ramp to awaiting NSW Police and Ambulance officers.
Gerringong Inflatable also picked up the good Samaritan on his craft and took him back to shore.
