Channel Auto Electrics
A locally owned business serving the Channel region since 1976. Providing professional repairs on all makes and models of car, truck, boat and machinery.
We occasionally get asked to fit radios to vehicles that have been purchased online and i generally say no. Then the question is why? I had a customer today getting ready to go on a long trip next week and he patiently booked the car in 3 weeks in advance and had paid quite a bit of money for this radio which was advertised as a “simple plug and play, all parts supplied premium Volkswagen upgrade” against my better judgement and empathy for my customer I agreed to partake in the task. We initially found the steering wheel controls supplied with the unit were not compatible with this model and because of this also the CAN module would not turn the radio on and off with the ignition commands. We are going to need to supply him with another CAN module and wire it in not very plug and play now is it? Then we noticed the kit actually covered up all the buttons on the radio so we had to cut a section out of his fascia just so he could use it. On top of that the air vents were plastic welded onto the old surround so it needed to be cut up to be fitted into the new unit and to top it off the fascia fitted horribly into the dash and much time was required just to make it look presentable.
So this post is an explanation of an unfortunate lesson to myself and the customer whom was very grateful with the effort we went to.
I have to politely decline any further radio installations with customer supplied units.
We are however able to supply a quality aftermarket option to suit most vehicles.
The stuff we love doing… Our customer brings us his 1957 Buick and asked us to fix the horn and the indicator stalk was floppy and wouldn’t self-disengage when exiting corners. I found it had a copper ring in the steering column however all the contacts were missing so I adapted a Lucas brush holder to make it work. The fault in the indicators was due to the indicator plate assembly missing a roller bearing and the spring assembly needed re-tensioning. We turned down an m8 bolt into a roller bearing to fit and reassembled the column and it worked faultlessly 👍
Happy new year everyone and so far we have had happy customers from our new investment. We recently purchased a complete Air Conditioning OE hose repair kit and have been successfully able to repair broken alloy a/c pipes and hoses which comes at quite a considerable discount than buying new lines. But most importantly we have a fair amount of stock which means we have better chances of getting your air conditioning repaired on the day. How COOL is that 😎👍 ha ha sorry dad jokes never get old with me.
I’d like to wish our young Josh a happy 18th birthday, for those that don’t know he joined us through a school based apprenticeship program and has made day to day problems look easy. He’s creative, intelligent and I’d go as far to say he’s the glue that keeps everyone here in a happy mood. You’ll notice if you ever come to visit us he’s polite, courteous and always happy to help. We’re very proud to have him on our team. Happy birthday Joshy.

We were absolutely stoked to receive this today!
It has been a very busy week at channel auto electrics this week with plenty of cars visiting for repairs including this Monaro which will be driven by Shane Jacobson in this years targa event. We feel very fortunate to be entrusted with such special vehicles and I would most of all like to thank my workmates Eloy and Lachlan for putting in the hours and effort 👍
Best of luck to Mark and his team at targa this week 👍 thanks for letting us help you get there
We are saddened to inform you all that Channel Auto Electrics will be closed on this coming Wednesday the 10th of March as we will be attending the funeral of our mentor, workmate and friend Mr Wynn Hansson.
Our deepest condolences to Wynn’s family he will be greatly missed.
There are no words to describe the sadness felt of losing such a great and respected gentleman. Wynn was brilliant at the work he did but he really was responsible for so much more... He provided not just myself but many other young men with an opportunity to become auto electrical tradesmen of which most are still. I feel very fortunate to have worked with Wynn and cannot show enough gratitude for the opportunities he gave me. He has truly changed my life forever. My team and I will continue to honour his memory everyday in this business he started so long ago. Thank you again, Dave
