Antonio Medina, a fourth-generation coffee grower in Guatemala, manages a property where only a quarter is dedicated to coffee cultivation, while the rest is preserved as native forest, supported financially by the government.
He employs sustainable practices, such as selective pruning and native shade trees, to foster biodiversity.
By shifting to specialty coffee production, antonio aims to invest in a mechanical dryer for more consistent drying and less dependence on weather.
In processing, Antonio uses traditional methods alongside eco-friendly practices like mechanical washing to reduce water usage.
His commitment to sustainability and quality has earned him recognition in competitions like the cup of excellence, placing 8th in 2015.

Lida Cielo, from a coffee-farming family, carries on the tradition with her husband Nilson and their daughters Luisa and Laura.
They meticulously manage their coffee production, ensuring cherries are picked at the right ripeness and undergo a carefully monitored fermentation process.
After de-pulping and further fermentation, the coffee is washed and dried on slanted patio spaces and then in a vertical dryer over several days.
This process takes about 25 days, utilising shade cloth and ventilation to protect the coffee. ☕️
