Little Chickens Family Daycare
A family daycare family that loves being outside, active & creative. I believe in building resilience
Learning to read and write are great skills and some children may have already started prior to school but getting ready for ‘big’ school is much simpler than teaching your child their ABCs.
Kindy readiness is about ensuring that children are able to perform self help tasks such as toileting, putting their shoes on and opening lunch containers, as well as buildong the fine motor and muscle strength to be proficient in controlling their pencils.

Does your car seat have loops on the side? Use them to hook the seatbelt clips into.
After long daycare, family daycare and 4 of my own kids, I can’t believe I didn’t already know this 🤦♀️
(Thanks to Michael for being my baby model. Isn’t he cute? 😍💖.)
Meet our newest little chicken, Michael.
After a few challenges we are now home, ready to love and learn together.
Our FDC return date is yet to be confirmed but definitely coming, in the meantime please message me if you want any advice of suggestions on anything daycare or learning related.
What a year 2021 was! Crazy busy, full of learning…. and another baby on the way 🤰💙.
As I prepare for maternity leave, I am also working on a new plan for learning for when I return.
So stay safe, spend time with your children and watch this space for more fun 💖.
Some extra help for families…
From today, the annual cap has been removed for families who get Child Care Subsidy. It will be backdated to the start of the 2021–22 financial year.
If you’ve already reached the cap, we'll pay you any money we owe you this month.
You don’t need to do anything. We’ll apply this change automatically.
There are some changes coming up to CCS. Be sure to update your details to ensure you receive the correct amount.

Good news for families! In December we’ll be removing the annual cap for families who get Child Care Subsidy (CCS).
In March 2022, we’re also increasing CCS for families with more than one child in care.

Bravehearts - Fiona Power With 1 in 5 children sexually harmed or exploited each year in Australia, the support of people such as you is key to prevention.
Karrak is back! We love storytime every day and the PKR team always gave us a fun morning.
Reading together is so rewarding and educational- together we build relationships, learn more about each other, more about the world and it helps us relax.
And, of course, we learn to read 😊
On a mission....
This 14mth old has been watching the older children collect the eggs for some time now and decided this was the day.
After I picked up the basket and asked the children whose turn it was, this little cherub took the basket from me and set off across the yard to the chook pen.
The children learn so many things when we collect the eggs-
▪️turn taking
▪️caring for pets
▪️sustainability
▪️hand coordination (careful they don’t break!)
▪️walking
▪️climbing
▪️balance
▪️where food comes from
▪️name recognition
▪️handwriting
▪️counting
▪️number recognition
Two helpers....
At Little Chickens children are ALLOWED to help.
It’s not always easy but it’s doable. The younger child is 2 and she ASKED to be my helper. She did such as fantastic job too. She needed some guidance, which ended up coming both from me and one of the older children but was able to-
▪️put the placemats on the table
▪️match the bottles to the names on the placemats
▪️put the spoons out
▪️serve everyone their bowls
Being safe and keeping children safe is important.
So how do we do that?
We provide freedom. Crazy? Some think so.
At Little Chickens we keep things real. An example..... we use crockery plates and bowls. With limitations and guidance. Babies who are still in a throwing stage use plastic.
Not all cupboards are locked and my kitchen is open plan.
Why?
Because danger and risk is everywhere. If we remove all danger and risk how do we learn to manage it? We don’t 😔.
So how do we manage it? How do we learn to keep ourselves safe from dangers?
👀Supervision is first and foremost.
Knowing each individual child is a very close second. Knowing their developmental stages as well as individual tendencies.
By allowing the RIGHT level of freedom, we also allow opportunities to learn and discuss danger and how to deal with it.
