Synapse Psychology
We are a dedicated group of psychologists providing a high quality professional service. We have three locations across the North and North West of the state.
Synapse Psychology is a dynamic and progressive group psychology practice headed by Dee Cooper, Clinical Psychologist. Our clinicians are highly skilled and provide assistance for both adults and children experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety and depression, eating disorders and psychometric assessments.
EMDR is a highly effective therapy which taps into the brain’s natural healing processes, allowing individuals to reprocess and heal from symptoms that are the result of memories and life experiences. It continues to be a gold-standard in helping those cope with trauma.
If you're seeking evidence-based support for trauma-related challenges, EMDR could be the solution you've been looking for.
You don’t have to tell us twice that it’s getting chilly!
Kalulu is proudly rocking her new winter coat, and seems quite chuffed to be accidentally matching with Shannon, her favourite provisional psychologist 😉

I love visiting our Devonport office to check out all the new books that Cathryn brings to work. Books are a great way of helping little people understand their bodies and emotions through story.
Welcome to Dan. Dan has spent time working in the Uk before returning to Tasmania to join Synapse and work with Utas. Amongst all of that he completed a PHD and is a new dad.

Who else is enjoying this amazing weather and the turning of the leaves in autumn. Take the time today to pause and look at our beautiful trees in our city.
As i mentioned earlier this week we are going to see more from our clinicians going forward. It's exciting to see the innovative content our clinicians will create. They'll be leveraging their creativity to educate and, at times, entertain us. Lets see what they'll come up with and how they'll engage with us. I've had a sneak peak and i am loving what i am seeing and can't wait to share their videos with you.
Please be aware our Brisbane street office is closed today. Our office in Canning st , Launceston and Gunn st, Devonport are open. Tamara is working in our Canning street office today and can assist you with any enquiries.

The recent stabbing events in Bondi and western Sydney have been horrific and traumatising. Right now there is a large effort to organise supportive services for people who have been affected by this. What we don't always take into account is that the first responders and therapists who put their hands up for doing this important work also need to be supported. In addition to training and building a large network of EMDR trained clinicians (specifically in rural and regional Australia), the Trauma Recovery Network Australia of which Dee is part of the management and training team, also aims to provide a supportive network for professionals who are working on the frontline of large scale traumatic events.
Play as a form of communication has been with humans and animals for as long as we can trace. Play can be a really good way to communicate emotions and work through what we are feeling, especially if the words are just to hard.
Play can be a way of story telling and a way of teaching different ways to behave when emotions take hold. If you or your young person would enjoy some play in your therapy session contact us today on 63643880 or you can book online https://clientportal.powerdiary.com/clientportal/synapsepsychology
Kentia Palm plant spam update. It turns out our little plant is getting a lot of love from visitors into our Brisbane office.
I have had lots of advice from people telling me, its not a good look to have little kentia in plain sight and we should wait till he is looking great. But that is not what we are about, We are about growth and recovery and presenting our true selves to the world scars and all. We continue to be proud of our little plant, slow and steady wins the race.
Well done to this great crew of people who are raising awareness and money to support mental health programs. Goodluck on your ride.
We are pretty excited for our own little pocket rocket Em J, who has just received her registration as a Psychologist. Emma has already completed a doctorate and is actually Dr Emma Johnson but now she adds registered Psychologist to her name. Congratulations Emma you have worked incredibly hard to get to this point, now it's time to take your foot of the pedal, for a while at least and enjoy.
