Lex Palmer Bull is primarily known as a printmaker but ceramics has provided a perfect medium to explore her love of process-driven art-making.

The relinquishing of control that comes with working with clay, glaze and fire makes her experience of creating ceramics collaborative and playful.

As a newcomer to the world of clay, the wheel, and glazing, she finds it enjoyable to discover the various ways in which she can combine her aesthetic language with the autonomous nature of clay.

The few wares that she is showcasing at the market are her initial foray into what she hopes will become a long and explorative journey in creating things with mud and fire.

Just over a week until the market and we are delighted to introduce Jayme Wearn.

Jayme has been working with clay for a few years learning from wonderful people and potters living on Kaurna and palawa land and in Aotearoa. Mostly working on the wheel, her pieces are eclectic and very rarely planned!

Come and meet her at the market and follow her on Instagram at

Introducing our next potter Eloise Gurr!

Eloise is a social worker obsessed with glazes. She started playing with clay in 2020 to make pots to house her other obsession - plants! Eventually, Sonja and Sarah at Russell Street Studios convinced Eloise that it was possible to make vessels without drainage holes and the world of possibilities opened up 😅! Eloise loves exploring the infinite variety that pottery offers, including wheel throwing, hand building, slip casting, and the never-ending glaze combinations. There is always more to learn and dive into. Profits from Eloise’s sales at the market will be donated to Enterprising Aardvark, an amazing free, not for profit counselling service supporting people in northern Tasmania who have experienced complex early childhood trauma and sexual assault.

Introducing our next Pottery Market maker Jane!

Jane Forrest took up ceramics only recently but has fallen completely in love with the art form, particularly the potter’s wheel. She loves experimenting with colour and layering glazes to create unique, one-off pieces.

The market is only a couple of weeks away now - we are getting very excited!

Local to Launceston, Linda Phillips is an enthusiastic and talented potter, who after a lifetime love of collecting ceramics and lessons from a master potter created her own backyard studio.

She throws functional ceramics combining her favourite features of Japanese pottery with her own simple, imperfect style to create one-of-a-kind pieces. By using mixes of different glazes, Linda creates unique and beautiful combinations of colours and textures on her pottery.

Come and meet Linda at the Russell Street Studios Pottery Market on Saturday the 2nd of Decemer - only three weeks to go!

Creating pottery and making music are Sarah’s passions. Sarah recently moved from the mainland to Launceston in Tasmania where she is focussed on ceramics and on new musical creations and projects.

Sarah is a small batch ceramicist. She delights in exploring new shapes, colours, processes and finishes and loves the alchemy and limitless possibilities involved in making things with clay. Sarah enjoys the unpredictable nature of every aspect and phase of making ceramics, and the excitement of opening the kiln never wanes! Every item is handled many times and is loved and cared for every time she sees it, touches it, shapes it, and works with it. Sarah is looking forward to meeting the local pottery community and visitors to the inaugural Russell Street Studios Pottery Market.

Árný Gyða Button has loved pottery for most of her life, practising in both Launceston and her homeland of Iceland (and back again!). In her work, she captures the cold aesthetic of Iceland and its unique cultural customs combined with vibrant splashes of colour drawn from the Australian landscape.

Her works strike the balance of two dramatic landscapes with function at the heart. This keeps her dedicated to the craft, where she continuously learns and experiments, using the potters' wheel to bring her functional wares to life.

Come and say hello on market day.

We are lucky to have Sonja Brough as the Studio Manager at Russell Street Studios. With a profound love for clay and an artist's soul, she has spent years honing her craft, creating breathtaking pottery that seamlessly blends form and function.

Sonja's work reflects a unique fusion of tradition and innovation, where she combines her classical training in ceramics with a contemporary artistic sensibility. Her pieces are not just functional but also serve as works of art that evoke a deep connection to nature and the elements.

Join us at the inaugural Russell Street Studios Pottery Markey where Sonja will be showcasing her skills and creativity through live pottery demonstrations. You'll be able to witness some of her process of transforming clay into beautiful, functional ceramics.

Currently selling her work through Gallery Pejean, she will have some pieces available for display on the day (like the Smugs.mugs in this photo), and chat with you about some of the classes that she offers.

Hannah Butterfield is new to Tasmania but not new to the world of ceramics. She first threw on the wheel five years ago, in Melbourne. After falling very quickly in love with clay, she started training in India. After an intensive three-month course in the Himalayan mountains (wow!), she developed her skills in wheel throwing, hand-building, and glaze development.

Hannah's small batch ceramics focus on form and function. Each piece is unique, designed to be pleasurable and satisfying to use while adding to space and telling a story.

Come and meet her at the Russell Street Studios Pottery Market and find her on Instagram:

Tarsh Bonnice began working in ceramics 25 years ago and has a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts with Honours, majoring in Ceramics.

Born in Tasmania, Tarsh lives in Northern Tasmania and spends as much time as possible in her home studio, which has views of her native flower garden and the Tamar Valley. She loves nature and is familiar with the local flora and botanicals.

Her pieces are functional and made from porcelain on her pottery wheel. Many designs emanate from flittering moments within the surrounding garden, visits of black cockatoos, and the blossoming of native flowers.

Tarsh’s work can currently be found at her online shop, and we are stoked that she will be at our upcoming market.

Come and meet her at the market and follow her on Instagram:

Jessie Stanley is a hobby potter who started three years ago when she received a wheel-throwing course as a gift. Pottery runs in her family, with her grandmother and uncle making it their life's work, inspiring her to be bold and experiment with colourful designs that express her current whims and interests.

Jessie has a small home studio with an electric kiln where she spends her free time creating small batches of pottery. Always experimenting, she enjoys incorporating patterns and Tasmania's flora and fauna into her work. Jessie hopes the kiln gods will bless her with some of her tall vases and other pieces for the markets.
