The Nitro & Pisa, designed with Polartec® Alpha® Direct, are everywhere but often hidden. Elusive & changing colours, here are some key characteristics to spot them in the wild:
- Usually found buried beneath outer layers
- Enjoys alpine terrain or anywhere cool & wet
- Easiest to spot when someone is de-layering
- The Nitro has thumb loops and a fuzzy hood– an easy giveaway
- If your friend wears a particular layer on every adventure without washing it, it’ll probably be the Nitro or Pisa
When Macpac Ambassador, Charlie Murray, describes a day as 'hectic' we know it must be out-the-gate wild. At the end of last year Charlie, Nick Pascoe & Jasper Gibson spent seven days forging a route from the West Matukituki Valley to the West Coast.
Starting any journey with the near-vertical battle up to French Ridge Hut is hard enough without also hauling skis, camp equipment, pack rafts & 7(ish) days' worth of food. From here began their seven-day epic - navigating mostly unexplored terrain and including everything from falling through an ice floe, to losing half a paddle.

We're almost there, bring on snow season. Snowsport gear - online & in-store now. Stock is subject to availability.
We've got you set for instant comfort. You know those fabrics that feel cold when you put them on? The High Pile isn't one of them. Created for the cooler months, they'll provide you with cosiness straight away. Perfect for tent-side cooking, evenings outdoors and cool, moonlit mornings.
"Watching them get to experience it all, and seeing how resilient it’s made them- our motto when we’re tramping is “yes this is hard but we can do hard things”. The rewards, both big and small, are so great."
Shoshannah.

“The coolest thing about raising outdoor kids is how much time you get to yarn with each other while you're out there. And when you've been out in the wild for days or weeks at a time, conversations roam to places you just don't find in our busy day to day lives. You're present for each other’s challenges, the lowest low and highest highs. It's not a retelling after a day at school or work, you're in it together. It's such a privilege to really get to know these people before they head out into the world.”

"A pivotal moment was when Obie was three and we were rock climbing in Idaho. Dad, Scott, was on Everest so I was running solo for a few months. Walking back from climbing it was 30 degrees, hot, and sandy. Obie was a bit over it and he says “Mummy you’re a mountain guide but I’m not so you should carry me.”

"There are very few places in Australia I have found that feel so wild, so remote, so ancient and so untouched. If I tell you we spent seven days exploring the McIllwraith Range you will most likely say: Never heard of it, where’s that?"
-
Macpac ambassador, Dean Millar, embarked on a journey to explore the remote rainforest under the special guidance of traditional owners, Dion Creek and his brother Amos Hobson, from Southern Kaantju and Uutaanlanu country. Their mission was to witness and experience as much of the McIlwraith Range as possible within seven days, and document this lesser-known and accessed part of Australia. You can read about their adventure in Dean's blog - https://bit.ly/DeanMillerCapeYork
Meet your new defence against sand & water. The Wētā is extreme when it comes to water resistance. It’s made from a waterproof fabric with a roll-top design – which can be rolled three times to keep the essentials dry.
Today, we’re celebrating International Mountain Day, focused on restoring mountain ecosystems, with a project close to home.
Te Ahu Pātiki is 500 hectares of newly created public conservation land, including the summits of Te Ahu Pātiki/Mt Herbert and Mt Bradley, the two highest points in the Ōtautahi/Christchurch district, Aotearoa/NewZealand - the home of Macpac. The Macpac-supported project is facilitating the natural regeneration of native forests from a landscape that was mainly gorse. The ultimate goal of Te Ahu Pātiki is the complete restoration of the park’s indigenous flora and fauna to bring the Maunga back to its inherent natural state. The significant area holds the peninsula’s highest wetlands and a range of plant and invertebrate species that are unique to the site. A connection to existing protected land also means there will be conservation land from the summits to the sea.
Te Ahu Pātiki Charitable Trust was a Macpac Fund for Good recipient – our way of giving back to non-profit organisations whose core focus is a long-term positive impact. When you refuse a bag in the store, we donate $0.20 to the Fund for Good, and these are the sorts of projects the fund supports.
The restoration project, which also guarantees public access to the network of walking tracks, is visible from Ōtautahi’s port hills.

We're here to help. Macpac ambassador Caro Ryan details the how & the what when it comes to overnighters, including the best gear to take and how to keep the pack weight down. Read our blog - https://bit.ly/Overnight-hike-packing
