Recycle repurpose reuse is our motto saving items from land fill.

Merry Christmas to all our fabulous followers of Team Jake, who have taken the time over these past 12 months to have an interest in our Jake!
Its been a tough year with lots of changes and more to come in 2024.
We would like to thank everyone who have supported Team Jake for his animal rescue donations by supporting his free linen service, donated pet supplies, donated items for Big Group Hug, donations of handbags and toiletries for Bags for Dignity. Our reciprocal support to Rice For Cambodia which is a great charity.
For those who have purchased his Microbusiness products, Rags for Tradies and cleaning rags - thank you Team Jake MicroEnterprises by supporting Jake here, this has given him a 'job' he is his own boss and loving it with his support staff he has gained a good reputation in our communities as someone people can trust and want to support - so again Thank you every little bit helps keep him busy and engaged, and most of all in the community where life happens.
We will take a break now until 15/1/24 when we return with some new exciting adventures for Jake to get involved in, our main one being Recycle Repurpose, Reuse!
We will also be taking the step into 'fruit dehydration' and hope to tap into a small market for Jake to explore, (yes we do have food handling certificates).
We look forward to having a break, and a good start to 2024 when we return.

This day aims to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.
Here at Team Jake, we are proud supporters of this day in our calendar.
We choose to support Jake by creating and inclusive and supporting community presence and welcome all those who support Jake in his mission to be a valued and respected citizen.

Span's Sensitive Santa program provides a unique opportunity for children, siblings and their families with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other disabilities to meet Santa in a quiet, safe environment, which eliminates bright lights, loud noises that can trigger sensory sensitivities and enjoy the magic of Christmas together!

In the last 4 years Jake and his team successfully collected over 4000 bags of unwanted towels,sheets, doona covers and pillowcases from the very generous people in our local communities, saving all of these items from going into landfill.

Jake has then sorted, bagged and labelled all these items, donating them to many animal rescues, the RSPCA, Lost Dogs Home, Cat Protection Society and many more. Towels that are unsuitable for the rescues are converted into Rags for Tradies.

Team Jake Micro-Enterprises is all about helping a young man called Jake live a great and fulfilling life. Jake lives with autism and intellectual disability but that doesn't stop him in his desire to help animals and do his bit to reduce landfill.
Jake does this in two ways ;
1. He collects and sorts unwanted linens into categories to then donate on to various animal shelters and wildlife rescues - Bags to the Rescue.
2. With the towels that are unsuitable for the rescues and shelters he creates cleaning rags that Tradies love - Rags for Tradies.
Team Jake will collect and deliver to a range of suburbs in Melbourne's North Eastern Suburbs - Briar Hill, Greensborough, Diamond Creek, Doreen, Mernda, Plenty, South Morang, St.Helena, Watsonia, Whittlesea and Montmorency.

Jake is a man living in our community living with Autism and intellectual disability who is striving to be a great community member.
By our community getting behind him in supporting him in his linen collection service, this promotes a healthy lifestyle, a business opportunity for him, builds relationships in his community and most of all keeps him busy and active.

SUSTAINABLE FASHION STATISTICS

Do you think if we were all aware of the below statstics, we'd be so keen to purchase that new outfit? Let's share the statstics and educate our peers, in the hope that with knowledge we can all play our part in shrinking this global crisis.

GLOBAL FASHION INDUSTRY

•About 150 billion garments are manufactured globally each year. 87% of that goes to landfill within a year.

•Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world.

•Every second, the equivalent of one garbage truck of textiles gets sent to landfill or incinerated.

•Fashion emits 8 - 10% of greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change.

•Per year, the industry contributes 1.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

•The global textile and clothing industry is presently responsible for 92 million tonnes of waste annually.

AUSTRALIAN FASHION INDUSTRY

•Australia is the second biggest consumer of fashion and textiles per capita in the world.

•According to a report by the Australian Fashion Council, 1.42bn pieces of clothing are imported into Aus every year.

•This import costs Australian consumers $9.2 billion dollars which comes down to $6.50 per item on average.

•Australians buy almost 15kg of clothes every year or 56 new items every year.

•In terms of fabric or material, this comes to 373,000 tonnes of fabric.

•227,000 tonnes of clothing is sent to landfill annually, which equates to about 10 kilograms of textile waste per person.

•Approximately 260,000 tonnes, or 10kg a person, goes to landfill each year.

The Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), CDS Vic, will commence 1 November 2023.

The CDS is a scheme where individuals receive 10 cents per item when returning a number of recyclable items to a collection point.

We still encourage you to AVOID as much waste as possible, and RECYCLE as a second option.

CDS Vic will accept:
* Soft drink, juice and flavoured milk plastic bottles
* Glass beer bottles
* Aluminium cans
* Juice and milk long-life cartons

Currently, and until 1 November 2023, there is no solution for recycling long-life cartons such as milk cartons and juice cartons, also known as tetrapak or foil-lined packaging in Victoria.

Aluminium cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles can be recycled in many home recycling bins, however CDS Vic encourages users to ensure their item is recycled appropriately.

CDS Vic will have more than 600 refund collection points, with a minimum of one collection point per 14,500 people in metropolitan Melbourne, at least one per town of 750 people in regional areas, and at least one per town of 350 people in remote areas.

We are now open to collecting toys for all children from babies to 12 yo.

We ask for donations of NEW toys/gifts which Team Jake can collect from now until 15/12.

Jake will personally collect and donate on your behalf each Wednesday directly to Big Group Hug.

It can be hard heading into December not knowing if you can put gifts under the tree, and harder on kiddies not receiving a beautiful surprise!

Fabulous recognition for our services!

Big shout out to Team Jake MicroEnterprises for answering our call out for light coloured old sheets.

Jake and team dropped of bags of sheets they could share to others to use so that we could use them for our up coming workshops with SHiFT and Clean Energy Nillumbik.

We are looking forward to showing off the artwork the attendees ReMake.

Together we can divert many many kilos from landfill. We just have to do few things in a different way.

The bank of mum and dad just purchased a home today for Jake....
After a two year struggle finally found a great home only in the next street from us!

Next to all our beautiful parklands walks and trails here in Greensborough. Jake loves walking

Needs a little work nothing that paint cant fix!

Massive outdoor entertainment area for us to turn into our long awaited media room so Jake has some space for himself and some area to chill in!

Looking forward to doing some renos before he will move in which will be about his birthday next year!

What a day! We are all excited...
