Chile is a long narrow country that extends down the west coast of South America. That’s where I was born but my family and I have called Australia Home since I was very young.

September is a very special month for Chileans; we had the first 9/11 and on the 18th of September we celebrate Independence Day or Fiestas Patrias as Chileans call it. September is huge, it seems there are parties almost every day in September, not just for Chileans but for most Latin Americans.

I haven’t celebrated the 18th of September for over 30 years, but this year I feel compelled to do something special … and you’re all invited!

We will have empanadas; Brazo de Reina; South American treats and we are working on a gelato that will depict a Chilean flavour and of course, we’ll have Latin Music.

Come on down to Gelato Lab on Wednesday 18th September from 2pm to 7pm and celebrate with us.

What a whirlwind few weeks! So this is what's happened ...

The shop received an amazing makeover by Toni and Co and her team. People are continually commenting on how much they love the new space;

We have introduced Belgian Hot Chocolate (not powdered) to our repertoire for winter - and so far people are loving it;

We've had friends and family pop in and support us with their love, laughter and feedback;

We've purchased a coffee machine and our sons and friends have come in to give us lessons on coffee making, so far the feedback has been positive;

The days have been long for us; sometimes we don't get to go home and cook. Instead, we have loved eating at some of our favourite Black Rock Village eateries: Uncle Bart Espresso Bar & Kitchen, Gatto Rosso Trattoria, Clover Thai & Japanese in Black Rock, Black Olive On Black Rock, Flavours Pâtisserie Café .... thank you for providing nourishment for us 😘

On Friday afternoon our gelato display cabinet decided to take a break! It wasn't until this afternoon when our lovely friend and Electrical Engineer extraordinaire, came in and saved the day and fixed the machine 👏🎉

Now we're back on track and this week we'll be making new flavours and introducing our delectable crepes.

Greetings beautiful people! We are pleased to announce that our shop has recently undergone a makeover and we couldn't be happier with the final outcome. Toni and Co and her team went over and above this makeover. Everything they did was thoughtfully executed, and materials were repurposed where possible. While there are still a few details left to finalise, we are excited to reopen this Thursday. This is a work in progress and we're getting there. The main thing is that we have gelato ready for you.

Only two sleeps before our exciting makeover commences!

If you're having friends and family over, or just want to indulge at home where it's warm, come on down and grab yourself a take home pack of either .5L, 1L or 1.5L or just simply come and enjoy a gelato ... or just wait 2 to 3 weeks before we open again ❤️

We have a wonderful group of regulars who come to gelato lab on a weekly basis. One of them is young Will from England.

Will comes in every Friday for a gluten free cone with Amarena Cherry and the second flavour is usually different each time. Today is probably the last time we see Will as he heads home in a couple of weeks and we might be closed.

Today as a parting treat he chose a 3 flavour gf cone and we had a quick chat. The special thing Will has going for him is that he has excellent manners and people skills; has mastered the art of conversation and is an overall joy to see each Friday. His parents should be very proud of the young man he is becoming, an asset to society.

As Will left and we bid him farewell, we were certain that he would have a secure future ahead of him. After about an hour Will came back. He brought us boxes of chocolate and thanked us for being nice and welcoming to him. He promised to keep in touch.

As I sit here on this cold 🥶 day with Miles Davis playing in the background and a room full of delicious gelato, I can say with certainty that my faith in humanity has been restored, all thanks to the lovely young boy, Will, who was regular at gelato lab and will never be forgotten and remembered with fondness 😘

We frequently receive requests for Yoghurt. After careful consideration, we have decided to add Yoghurt to our product offerings and make it available in our display cabinet. During the summer season, it will be offered as soft serve. However, for now, you can enjoy it at home by purchasing a tub or enjoying it in a cup or cone. We are excited to provide this delicious option for your enjoyment.

Remember, as of Monday we are closed for about 2 to 3 weeks for an exciting makeover. See you at 2pm.
