The last few days have been a battle at both Babajis, with 5 of our 8 chefs down. And without many bookings, and a very high wages day, we cannot risk a day of serious financial loss (even with a 15% surcharge). We’re sorry to disappoint if you were planning a visit.

🌞 What a way to start the long weekend! Both Babajis Belgrave & Warburton are open ALL weekend (including Tuesday). Please help us out by booking if you are able.
❗️As you visit the Dandenong Ranges / Yarra Valley please remember you are visiting usually sleepy tourist towns who gear themselves up for a big weekend. This brings its own challenges not experienced in the city / suburbs. Relax.

As Babaji’s returns to its everyday lanes.

Whaaa!!! just recognised us as in the Top 49 restaurants in Melbourne! 😳

From that day when we tried to cook our first dosa in 43 degree heat at the , a code red day, we had zero clues what we were doing…. to this! We always pinch ourselves at just how far we have come and read emails announcing stuff like this, a quizzilion times!

We’re grateful to for the recognition but even more we’re grateful to our communities for their support over the years.

This is for everyone with a little dream and not much $.

This is for hopefully helping to put Belgrave and Warburton on the map and bringing more people to our towns for others to equally benefit (😉 controversial for some of us hermits in the Hills & Valley)

This is for all those little ethnic restaurants that sometimes just need a shout out and helping hand.

Lauren from did a great job. She totally gets our hometown Belgrave, us and even the intricacies of a Kerala Sadya… and no, we didn’t know she had visited. ☺️

'Avial'. We call her the Queen of Kerala curries ... and prepare her as if she is the Queen. She's hard work - probably just like the Queen was. Every single vegetable hand cut , the plantain, taro, carrots, beans, wintermelon. We could buy frozen veg. But we don't. Because this Queen deserves the love. ​​​​​​​​​

So, here's a little challenge to some in our Kerala community. .. it's not really about Babajis though we have had to get used to nasty comments and reviews, from our own community. It's an observation that needs contemplation. ​​​​​​​​​

Almost there .... just one more big day of cooking! Preparing Onam Sadya is a monumental task.​​​​​​​​​22 dishes. Every vegetable fresh (not frozen) and hand cut. No shortcuts.
We hope you can taste the difference.

We are so proud of our Chefs over Onam, they put their heart and soul into everything they do.

As Belgrave is almost booked out for Onam this weekend (just 15 spots left on Sunday night), we’re offering UNLIMITED Sadya at Babajis Kerala Kitchen Warburton this whole week. Please note this is NOT quite the same Sadya as the Belgrave Onam Sadya. On the Warby Sadya will be thoran, one pachadi, olan, avial, perripu, mezhukkupuratti, sambar, rasam, plantain chips, shakari upperi, moru, papadam,one pickle, one payasam, matta rice on fresh banana leaf.

🙌 It's our favourite time of the year ... It's Onam and you're ALL 🇮🇳 🇳🇿 invited!​​​​​​​​​
Onam, the biggest event of the year in Kerala. A time, when no matter what religion we are, we all come to the Harvest table to enjoy an Onam Sadya - a banana leaf feast of 20 dishes. It's a time to celebrate family, friendship, abundance and all that is good right now.

It really is a beautiful event. We're so proud to bring Onam to the Dandenong Ranges.
