Emotional intelligence skills are learnable, measurable and are directly related to successful life factors such as: academic achievement, wellbeing, good health, stronger relationships, higher self-worth, and improved quality of life.
Understanding your thoughts and feelings can significantly enhance your decision-making process. In our 6-week course, we'll utilise the EQ Gym workbook, developed from over 20 years of global research and practice, to guide you through practical exercises and insights to transform you personal and professional life.
I enjoyed a great session with the students at the Village High School yesterday . Such insights from these students who really thought through our discussion.
Village High School has worked with Robyn on two occasions so far, including a staff professional development session on Brain Talents and the Six Seconds Unwinding Anxiety workshop with our senior students. Both times we have found Robyn very responsive to our needs, friendly, professional and adaptive. Robyn was able to create programs that worked well in our setting and was readily available to discuss any questions.
I would highly recommend accessing any of the programs Robyn has to offer. Marni Sellens Village High School Wonthaggi.
Can you be a superhero?
Emotional intelligence is a superpower. Here are some take aways from this article.
Emotionally intelligent people:
- aren't afraid of failure. They know success isn’t a single achievement; it’s built on continuous improvement. And every fall is another opportunity to learn and grow.
- see criticism as simply another person’s perspective
- practice empathy for self and others, because if you empathise with everyone else’s feelings without considering your own, you put yourself on a path to burnout
-controlling thoughts will influence the emotions you feel
- use peaceful moments to recharge & savor the chance to think before speaking. I'm still working on this one!
Lot's more in the article to learn or contact me for EQ training.
Emotional Intelligence Is a Super Power. Here’s How to Develop Yours - EQ Applied
Join me for a free webinar on Wednesday 17 April, 7pm AEST.
‘Unwinding Anxiety. How to value discomfort and embrace challenging feelings.’ After the webinar I'll be sending a link for you to complete your own Unlocking EQ report.
Emotions as guides for challenging times. Focus: Awareness.
In our first theme for 2024 we explore valuing and honouring challenging feelings. This year we seek to understand how to use emotions as our guides for challenging times and we begin with Unwinding Anxiety and how to value discomfort and embrace challenging feelings. What are the messages these uncomfortable feelings have for us and how can we validate and learn from these feelings?
I am blessed to be part of a global community working towards 1 billion people practicing emotional intelligence. Gathering in community and practicing emotional intelligence supports us in growing our self awareness, which is one of the foundational pillars in the KCG model; Know Yourself.
In this Café we will discover:
- What some of our challenging emotions and feelings are, and we will explore what they look like and where we feel them in our bodies.
- What choices we have with our reactions and how to honour and host big feelings.
- How to value our challenging feelings and hear what they are saying or teaching us.

Today, I wanted to talk about pursuing your goals and using our emotional intelligence to do that. I was reading a book called "The One Thing" and recommend it as it talks about looking at your long term goal. So what do I want to achieve one day? Well one of my goals is to work flexibly from anywhere, anytime. Then you split that goal up. So what do I have to do in a year to achieve that goal? What do I have to do in a month? What do I have to do in a week? What’s the one thing I need to do today to achieve that goal? Well you can see I'm in a gorgeous part of Australia here at the moment with my family which I'm loving, so I'm getting to spend some time with them but the one thing I need to do today is make sure that I have completed some work that I have for meetings this evening and some training sessions this evening but what that means is I can allocate myself some time to have a swim today and maybe a game with my family.

Today I wanted to talk about Empathy. So Empathy is listening to somebody, not listening to respond, just listening to them and then listening to how they're feeling, feel it as well and then if you can act to actually make their life better. That's great!.

When I deliver training on Empathy, I always like to talk about self- empathy as well because so often we really try to listen to people with empathy, see how they’re feeling, feel their feelings, be there as a friend but how often do we do that to ourselves? So I want you to think about self-empathy and give yourself some self-compassion. Next time you're being a bit tough on yourself, what would you tell a friend if they came to you with that same situation? Treat yourself like you would a friend.

I've just visited the Alice Springs School of the Air. Seriously amazing and it brings me to today's topic which is Intrinsic Motivation. These kids do their schooling, have always done their schooling online throughout the whole primary and high school up until year 9. They have got to be intrinsically motivated, don't they? You know they don't have a teacher watching over them every minute of the day. They need to do their homework, it's their responsibility. I think it's a great example of intrinsic motivation of not doing something just because your parents say to do it, just because your boss says to do it, just because you want a reward or you want to avoid being reprimanded. It's because you want it. Intrinsic Motivation, we can all develop it, work out what you want and motivate yourself through your emotions.

I just wanted to do a quick video on gratitude. Victoria have been coping a lot of storms at the moment and I wanted to express my gratitude for our house sitter and for our wonderful friends and neighbors who have checked in to make sure our home and our pets are all safe. Thank you so much. I'm grateful that we can stay here in Alice Springs. I am grateful that my work allows me to work flexibly so I can be working while I'm away and preparing for when I get home to deliver more workshops. So lots of gratitude today.

I'm just about on top of the hill in Alice Springs Botanical Gardens and my husband was saying "How are you feeling about this walk?"
Wow! Okay, mixed feelings. Feelings of excitement and anticipation, because I’m really looking forward to heading up and looking at the gorgeous view from the top of the mountains. A bit of fear because he said “be careful of snakes”. So I need to be careful and watch out. Certainly a feeling of awe, because the views here are just gorgeous. So that brings me to gratitude. How lucky that I'm capable of walking up here, I have the time and that I can really enjoy this sensational view. Wow! What a country.

Today's Session is going to be about Optimism. I'm here at Botanical Gardens in Alice Springs and I want to talk about Optimism. Not fake positivity. We need to be realists. So before heading up on this climb, “I'm actually quite high up”, I've made sure I've got my hat, my sunglasses, water bottle, to be prepared, so I'm optimistic that I could make it up this big hill because I was prepared, because I did something about it. Not just, Oh yeah, I'm really optimistic about this, we'll just do it and setting yourself up to fail. Optimism is recognising what you can do to make your goals a reality.

Hi, Today's video is going to be Consequential Thinking and that's part of emotional intelligence - where we look at the costs and benefits. Today I start weighing up my cost of benefits. We were playing a wonderful Harry Potter game with my son and daughter-in-law here in Alice Springs having a great time and then it got to about 9pm and we thought about another game. The benefits are I get to enjoy my family's company and that's great, we're having fun but the cost, I'm getting up at 4:00am in the morning to deliver a webinar and so I weighed up the costs and benefits and thought, Hmmm early night tonight.

Day 1 in Alice Springs and yesterday we discussed Emotional Literacy. Today we're going to discuss recognising our patterns. Another way to increase your emotional intelligence. So, it's really hot here - over 30+ degrees.
One of my patterns is I put my toe in the water and I think it's too cold and spend the next 15 minutes trying to get into the water. I recognise this pattern and it doesn't serve me well, as I'm never happy until I'm actually in the water. Now that I recognise my pattern, this time I'm going to change it and I'm going to jump straight in.

So, I've arrive in Alice Springs and to continue on my emotional literacy, I’m feeling excited that I'm here. My son and daughter-in-law were feeling quite surprised because I gave them our Melbourne time of arrival which is an hour and a half earlier than they were expecting. So, they're quite surprised.
It's my husband in the background looking at some of the things we could do here so now I have a bit of anticipation for the next 10 days. We’re going to swim and enjoy warm weather, although I’m feeling a bit apprehensive about that one because it's going to be 37 degrees!! Anyway we're going to have a great time.

Hi, I'm at the airport and have decided that this trip I'm going to send some more emotional intelligence little snippets while I'm away. Xin Nian kauai le, Happy Chinese New Year, to you all.
I'm at the airport heading to Alice Springs, so my first lesson is about Emotional Literacy, naming it to tame it. So, what am I feeling at the moment? Well, excitement, I'm going to see my son and daughter-in-law, So, I'm feeling excited, anticipation, waiting for the plane, a little bit of sadness because I'm going to miss my grandson while we're away.
We can have lots of feelings that are going on all at one time and the more you can name them, the more you can understand what's going on. Now that, I’ve named how I'm feeling, I actually feel calm but excited.

Come and join in on our free webinar on Courage & Optimism
In our final theme for 2023 we explore Courage and Optimism. As mentioned in our earlier cafe’s this year, Optimism can help people see the possibilities and opportunities that the future holds, even in the face of uncertainty or adversity. This positive outlook can create a sense of hope and excitement about what’s to come, which in turn can foster trust in oneself and in others.
We have explored Purpose and Trust, together with Optimism, and now we embark on Courage and how you can activate your courage by using the feelings Optimism provides.
Courage and Optimism give us the opportunity to act from our heart with a sense that it will work out for us. If we think about the word courage and the latin word “Cor”, which means heart, Courage is acting from our heart. The early definition of courage was “to speak one’s mind by telling all one’s heart”. If we use this notion of courage being acting or telling from our heart, we can see the thread of engaging trust and aligning with our purpose utilises courage.
In this Café we will discover:
- The link between Courage and Optimism and the role of purpose and trust in activating our courage.
- Three questions to support activating your courage
- What internal talents we can engage to support ourselves in activating our courage.
Who: Anyone interested in learning about and practicing emotional intelligence – the learnable, measurable, scientifically validated skillset we all need to thrive.
What: Free interactive online workshop
When:Wednesday 15 November at 7pm AEDT
