Glen Cooks Food

Local legends have a range of native Australian herbs and spices available on their website. Here's what I did with them for the kids today..

1 kg pork mince (from Monbulk Family Butcher)
120g dried apple slices
2 free range eggs
A punch of salt bush
A pinch of natuvlie thyme
A pinch of native basil (sub these w mixed herbs)
Salt to taste
Puff pastry

Blitz ONE egg and the apple slices to fine in a blender. Then add this to the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Roll in puff pastry and brush with egg wash ((use other egg). Coat w sesame if desired and cut to shape (I make 5 sheets and cut them into six).
Bake at 190 fan forced for 15 - 18 mins (well spaced)

Come and see us tomorrow at Monbulk Produce Market! We'll be selling a delicious array of Fresh Veg from Thriving Foods Farm, as well as some gorgeous local products from local farms - Spurrell Foraging and Petite Ingredient, as well we will be putting on our Local Flavours hats and using these products in some hot and cold food and granola - so come down and say hi, eat something, or just smell and experience some very unique native herbs and plants you may have never heard of!

Oh, and we have local apples as well!

It's the truly magnificent site of a box full of asparagus! And other vegetables which are equally as exciting at other times of the year. We are sorry to inform you of our decision to cancel this event due to dumb weather.
The recent storms have caused us to rethink our menu as some of the produce we had planned to use has been affected. In the end, we felt our commitment to giving our guests and suppliers the best possible event was not possible and we've made the sad decision to push this event back until November, a month famous for its sunny weather and great produce.

We've been overjoyed with the positive feedback we received for our Local Flavours event last Saturday night!

It would not have been possible without our amazing community members who attended, the awesome locals who contributed ingredients from their backyards, the talented local producers who work tirelessly to produce beautiful quality food for us all to enjoy, our attentive and beautiful group of "locally produced" staff who made sure everyone was fed, and last but not least, the Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club for letting us use their amazing venue that worked so well!

We are so grateful to everyone involved!

There have been many requests that we "do it again please", so keep an eye on our socials for our next dinner in 3 months (featuring next seasons produce!) and for cooking classes featuring some of the most popular dishes from the night and more!
