Congratulations to our Action Sports Team who received an Outstanding Achievement Award as part of the recent YMCA Victoria 2021 Staff and Volunteer Awards.

The team was recognised for moving our Skate Club - YMCA and All Aboard Skateboarding Sessions programs into a virtual format. This engaged 700 participants in physical activity during lockdown.

It’s the start of and this year’s theme is Heal Country.

Country is a big part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Country is often referred to as a living thing and is revered. Country is what keeps us alive physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially and culturally. As country is so interwoven in our being, it must be protected; as without it, we’d cease to exist.

This year’s theme calls for the healing of country. This doesn’t just mean protecting nature, but also protecting the culture from being desecrated, exploited, destroyed or forgotten. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been living on this country for millennia. They know better than anyone how to nurture, preserve and protect it.

It is our responsibility to educate ourselves and enact change so that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities are equally represented and supported in all facets of our country – political, historical and cultural.

Hey guys, this is the Kanagroo Bay Skate Club crew and we're looking for some new youngsters to join our team and expand our program even further.

As the summer holidays progress the YMCA have launched a School Holiday Program for SkateClub at Kangaroo Bay Skatepark. Ages 6 -13 y/o, so if you have a brother/sister/cousin or friend, who think they would be interested learning a truly wicked hobby that will help them make friends, boost confidence in themselves and be out in the sun doing something physical, jump over to our website for more information, skatepark.ymca.org.au/skate-club, follow the prompts and come spend a day surfing some concrete with me. The All Aboard Skateboarding Sessions are free skateboarding lessons for ALL!

Start your career as a skateboarding coach through the Victorian Skateboarding Association (VSA) Scholarship Program.

The VSA in are offering sixteen Skate Australia Coaching Accreditation Scholarships valued at $700 each. Successful candidates that complete the program will be fast tracked into paid employment on the YMCA Action Sports coaching team.

YMCA Action Sport is developing a new protocol for staff when delivering programs to help reduce risk to the exposure and spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Following the Victorian State Government, our programs are not considered a mass gathering. At this point we are working with our partners to help run these important programs once staff have been trained.
