These are awards are created to recognize deserving Zambians in Australia and New Zealand under the categories below:

*Entrepreneur of the year -* This award recognizes an entrepreneur who embodies resilience and excellence in business and investment, showcasing a genuine ability and passion in running a successful enterprise. The recipient boasts a proven track record of success, financial stability, and active community involvement.

*Youth Ambassador of the Year -* This is an award honouring young leaders under 25 who exemplify outstanding leadership, community engagement, and cultural enrichment. The recipient will have showcased excellence, cultural diversity, and a strong connection to their Zambian heritage. This initiative aims to recognize and uplift the positive accomplishments of all young individuals.

*Academic Excellence Award of the year -* An individual who excels in a diverse range of fields including; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Accounting, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy,and Physiotherapy.

*Zambian Researcher of the Year -* Recognizing Zambian high achieving researchers who have made amazing discoveries in life, university, or college through research in any field. This award is created to celebrate research-based achievement, leadership, and excellence.

*Sportsmanship of the year -* The recipient of this award boasts a traceable and proven track record of excellence in sports, fitness, and physical wellbeing.

*Community Leader of the Year -* An award created to recognise an individual engaging in extraordinary commitment to improving the lives of people of Zambian origin or connections in Australia and New Zealand.

*Advocacy and Social Justice Award* - an award recognizing Zambians advancing equity and social justice through the promotion and protection of human rights, advocacy for individuals, children and families of all abilities irrespective of age, gender, sexual identity, race, religion, economic or social status.

*Business of the year -* An award recognizing a Zambian business that can demonstrate a long-standing commitment of a responsible business and leadership in the marketplace, workplace, environment, and the community. The business must be financially sound and active in the community.

*Friend of Zambians of the year -* An award created to recognize an individual whose heritage is not Zambian but whose work, counsel or conduct is of service and benefit to Zambians in Australia, New Zealand and abroad.

*Zambian Author / Publisher of the Year* - an Awarded created to recognize an established author or publisher contributing to literature and knowledge and has maintained excellence, impact, and influence.

*Entertainer of the year -* Awarded to an individual or group that has demonstrated great entertainment, quality and uniqueness of art, and / or performances throughout the year.

Mrs. Judith Tembo came to visit Australia from Zambia in December 2023.

She due to return home in July 2024. However, on the 8th of July 2024, she presented at Shoalhaven, hospital
in Nowra NSW where she got admitted due to severe pain she was experiencing in her left lower leg.

Unfortunately, after further investigations she was found with a clot in her lower leg which had totally blocked the blood supply to other parts of the body. Since this was discovered too late to save the leg, she had to undergo urgent surgery where she got her left lower leg amputated above the knee.

Kudos to our Copper Queens on the massive improvement at international stage so far as they exit the Paris Olympics 2024 games. These are girls who we watched losing by huge margins at such tournaments not long ago but they are now very competitive and entertaining.

This is a generation of girls who grew up in our extremely underprivileged communities with no hope of progressing in life.

We are aware our under 17 Copper Princesses are going to the World Cup later this year. These tournaments should be a motivation to majority of our young citizens in the country. Like we have reiterated before, there should be no minor or major sport in our country for both male or female.

We should continue giving support to our athletes in our country as a significant job creation industry.

Meet Taonga Chanda, our new YALI Mandela Washington Fellow!

Taonga Chanda has over three years of experience in procurement and road construction supervision. Taonga is the founder and CEO of Eco-Africa Supplies and Contractors Company Limited, a firm focused on waste management and environmental protection. The company collects and recycles waste polyplastic materials into construction materials and raises awareness about climate change. Taonga volunteers with Limitless Foundation, mentoring children in orphanages and providing supplies for outreach programs.

Taonga holds a Bachelor of Science in Purchasing and Supply from Copperbelt University and a certificate in road construction from the National Council for Construction.

Upon completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Taonga plans to use the training, networking, and experience gained to foster growth, innovation, employment, and sustainability in the business.
