📢 Breaking News: New Australian Immigration Points System Announced!
Grattan Institute has released a draft of the new 500-point immigration system, which the Department of Home Affairs is likely to consider. Here are the key changes:

1. Reformed Points Test
Adjusted points allocation based on age.
More points for higher degrees, excellent English skills, and skilled spouses.
Removal of bonus points for Australian study, regional study, professional year, and specialist education qualifications.
Points for high-skilled employment experience, especially high-paying Australian work experience.
Points-tested visas for skill level 1, 2, or 3 occupations.
Minimum qualifying points set at 300, with guaranteed invitations for applicants with at least 400 points.
Ranked choice selection for all permanent points-tested visas.
Abolishment of State and Regional Points-Tested Visas

2. Elimination of state and regional points-test visas, with an increase in skilled independent visas.
Encouragement for state governments to support employers in using employer sponsorship for skilled workers.
Retention of regional employer-sponsored visas, pending review findings.

📌 From 1 July 2024, the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold will increase from $70,000 to $73,150 for subclass 482, 494, 186 and 187.

Students pursuing Master (research) and doctoral degrees (PhD) can now apply for the 485 visa with an age limit extended to 50 years.

For Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor, and Master (coursework) degrees, the application age limit remains at 35 years.
