Visit the extraordinary Les Jardins de Marqueyssac. Located on a bastion overlooking the Dordogne River, the 19th century stone-tiled castle has more than 6 kilometers of shaded pathways lined with 150,000 hand-pruned shrubs, punctuated with belvederes, rockeries, waterfalls and greenery. Known as the Italian Garden in Périgord, its sophisticated topiary uses clipped box, cypress and rosemary in flowing, organic shapes. Visit Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens, built in the early Edo period in 1629, and one of the three ‘Great Gardens’ of Japan. Travel into Cornwall and visit the Eden Project. Located on a reclaimed china clay pit the Eden Project is an educational charity. The complex is dominated by two huge enclosures consisting of adjoining domes, that house thousands of plants species. The largest of the domes simulates a rainforest environment. Nakamise is the most famous shopping street in Asakusa. The street runs for 250 meters on the main approach to Sensoji Temple and is lined on both sides with shops selling traditional souvenirs, snacks, and sweets. Located in the Lazio, about 40 miles south-east of Rome, Ninfa was a substantial town going back to the times of the Romans. The ruins have been transformed into a botanical garden. Now plants wind over ruined towers and walls, rejoicing in the lush conditions. The atmospheric setting features roses scrambling for footholds in ruined archways, and the frescoed church wall still standing open to the weather.
