World Vegan Day Melbourne, over the years, has become a major part of the vegan community calendar. We have loved bringing it to you every year…. The last event we held was in November 2019, and although we are posting this 4 years later, we are still hopeful to bring WVD Melbourne back in the near future. Thank you for your love and support.

Tomorrow, Malia, one of our team, has been invited to Radio channel to chat about World Vegan Day Melbourne in the lead up to World Vegan Day, November 1st. The global celebration of all things vegan. Tune in from 1-2pm on 355am or stream on their website.

Pictures are a mixture of shots from various years at The Showgrounds.

Hey Melbournians, we have been quiet on here however since we know you love all things vegan food, we just wanted to share the book launch of Katie White happening tomorrow in Melbourne Emporium.
You may know Katie from her aesthetically pleasing and informative recipes, her beautiful song writing or posts about her darling dog Teddy.

Katie is Launching her book titled The Seasonal Vegan. A perfect edition for those looking to expand their knowledge in cooking seasonally or just wanting to expand their repertoire of delicious vegan meals.

Readings at the emporium will be hosting the event from 6pm and there will be free vegan cheese from Fine Cultures, and a Q and A with author Katie White and master chef’s Freshly Picked with Simon Toohey . Come and join in and meet some likeminded folk.

It’s a free event, but head to the website to book. https://www.readings.com.au/events/book-launch-the-seasonal-vegan

Happy World Vegan Day Everyone.
It’s a happy day, but bittersweet that we cannot bring you World Vegan Day Melbourne this year. We will indeed be back in action next year, with a lot to celebrate.

November 1st, World Vegan Day, a chance for us to celebrate what it means to be vegan. We can take a moment to acknowledge how far we have come, we can remember those whom we live vegan for, the animals, we can look to the future and what that means for the vegan community and way of living.

Unfortunately this year it falls on the annual dreaded Cup Day here in Melbourne. A day that brings suffering and often death to the horses involved.
Today is a day of joy, but also sadness.

What does World Vegan Day mean to you? What will you be celebrating?

Hello dear friends,
Welcome to 2022, Can you believe we last saw each other in 2019? We have missed you all.

At the start of 2022, with everything opening up again, and after 2 years of lockdowns, we were excited to bring World Vegan Day Melbourne 2022 to you all.

However after much consideration, and with so much uncertainty amongst the events industry & community, we have come to a decision with a heavy heart that World Vegan Day 2022 will not proceed this year.

The planning of WVD for our organisation takes several months of planning, and with time running out for us, this decision did not come lightly. It has been a tough time for us all.

We are excited to bring WVD back in 2023, bigger and stronger than ever before. And lots of surprises in store.

We hope you understand our decision. We appreciate all your emails, and messages and thank you for all your support!

We look forward to seeing you in 2023.

HAPPY WORLD VEGAN DAY

Today would have been the day we would have all been together at the Melbourne Showgrounds, celebrating World Vegan Day, which is globally celebrated on November 1st. We were lucky enough to have this year’s event fall on that particular day. Alas as we know, Melbourne, and the world, have had to put many things on hold. Our event being one of them.
We hope you can celebrate today with your family and friends, eating lots of delicious vegan food, patting yourself nearest animal friends or family and remember all the beautiful reasons to love and live vegan. You could celebrate too by supporting a local Melbourne vegan business today, if you can’t get there physically you can surely buy online. Let’s start a thread of all favourite vegan business, share the love and let them know you appreciate them by tagging them below.

Let’s also take a moment to appreciate all the new vegan items to hit the shelves, making living vegan even more easy, and tastier, than before. Living vegan is growing, and it is not stopping. Thank you to everyone who has made the change. The animals & planet thank you!

Thanks again for everyone’s support, punters and participants, food vendors and retailers, over the years, & to our sponsors who without their support, we wouldn’t be able to run WVD year in and out as we do. 👌🏼

Take care, stay safe, happy and healthy, look out for your friends and family, we dearly look forward to seeing you amongst the vegan hustle of WVD2021.

With the current climate of Covid19 within our community, from 16 March 2020, the Australian Government has taken the precautionary measure of recommending public gatherings involving more than 500 people be cancelled. With Victoria now amidst stage 4 restrictions, and these possibly easing late into October, large gatherings are not looking at being eased till more than likely at the end of 2020.
Organising an event like WVD takes a lot of resources, thousands of hours, hundreds of volunteers, and many, many months of planning. And we cannot see this happening with the time we have left in 2020.

Therefore it is with great disappointment that we have decided to cancel World Vegan Day Melbourne 2020. Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today. We have been waiting till the last possible minute before making this announcement hoping that the restrictions will be released in time for World Vegan Day.

However the latest news from the Victorian Government is that this will not happen in time for our event to take place.
Right now, the most important thing all of us can do is focus our attention on helping people with the new challenges we all face.

We would love to thank all of our sponsors, exhibitors, and patrons for all the patience, love and support you have shown over the last several months!
Take care, stay safe!
See you in 2021
Much love

For too long, firm tofu has dominated the salt and pepper tofu candidacy and I’m putting my foot down. I’ve never met a tofu I couldn’t come to love (except egg tofu which can go to hell) and I’ve tested them all for you and know they all fry up well. Spoiler: silken tofu is my favourite so people who tell you that you can’t fry it are trying to shield you from the truth. So whether you’re a friend to the firm or it’s silken that soothes you I’ve put up a guide on them all on my website so it’s time for a bit more tofu diversity representation in your frying pans from now on please and thank you. https://www.zaccharybird.com/salt-pepper-tofu

Where there is a will; there’s always a way. These days, it’s easy finding the vegan options for our favourite things, and the more we start making those ethical purchases, the more the market will know what the consumer wants: ethical and cruelty free is the way to go :-)

World Vegan Day Melbourne 2019

'THEIR FUTURE IS IN OUR HANDS'

World Vegan Day Melbourne 2019 will be held on Sunday November 10th. Our FREE, volunteer-run, community event is heading into its 17th year and we're planning for it to be bigger than ever!

This one-day event (10am-6pm), offers a broad and exciting range of examples of what it means to live vegan. Whether you are passionate about health and wellbeing, fitness, cooking, beauty and body care, fashion, kids and family activities, politics, business, animal rights, sustainability, self-sufficiency, music, creativity, or just love devouring delicious food and drinks.

Being Vegan can also make a massive difference, which is our theme for this year. Annually 70 billion farmed animals are killed worldwide for food consumption. It also takes 50,000 litres of water to produce 1kg of beef compared to 500 litres for 1kg of potatoes. Australia has lost 92% of its forest and bushland due to the grazing of animals, while the grain we feed cattle worldwide yearly is enough to feed 8.7 billion people, more than the world’s population. From an individual point of view, it is estimated that each year every vegan saves 365 animals, while also saving 1.7 millions of water, 3.3 tonnes of CO2, 1,000 square metres of forest and 7 tonnes of grain.
