The Great Wall of Fame! Est 1995, Atelier Puglisi has seen many thousands of musicians pass though the door from every corner of the globe. Some famous, some infamous, most just happy to play in the background, with many getting their first instrument and start. What a thrilling fun filled month! Assembled an A-Team of Double Bass makers for this Collaboration. With over 100 years of passionate instrument making experience between us, this was always going to result in some brilliant innovative ideas and methods.

• Friend and colleague Corey Swan from the USA, Josias from Germany, mixed with the awesome homegrown proven talent of Tim Kill and Andy Tiggs combining to make this Vitruvian model is one to cherish.

• As instrument makers, we spend an awful lot of time on our own practising and working our Craft, but it's when you have can have a true collaboration, the sum of all, makes some really good things happen - that's for sure.

• With the result being one-and-a-half instruments completed in the white!! Vitruvian VIII has a voice!

• Featuring a fully height adjustable, removable neck, with world's best practice lightweight track system, and Corey's Harmonic Balance stunning tailpiece, just to name a couple of the features.

• Huge shout-out to Gary Upton for his help and advice.

With the finishing off the details and varnish still to follow, it's been a bonus to hear the result with a few visiting musicians as well.

Bernardo’s Sepulcro para un Recuerdo (Tomb for a memory) is the most unique and beautiful solo bass piece I’ve had the honour of playing. ❤️ His use of natural harmonics and scordatura makes the bass sing and resonate so openly and I loved every minute of learning and recording it.

Always a real treat to share some workshop time with talented, passionate musos like long time friend Chloe, and new friend Danica. Danica is in fact the worthy new owner of la vecchia, Vitruvian VII, no less. I can’t wait to hear their journey!

Couldn't be happier with this outcome. Taking an old Hungarian curvy double bass and giving it a ground up, rebuild and re-purpose conversion to baroque style.

Posso presentarvi il mio nuovo amico, il "Signor Nero"- Vitruvian VII. Modello personale Italiano antico.
Couldn't be happier with the outcome of this instrument. One of those times when the outcome totally matches the vision.
Using timber that I had stored away for more than 2 decades I was inspired by some ancient Italian instruments we have been working on and spent the last 12 months or more creating this interpretation. Gratitude to my workshop team in particular, Andy and Tim for their amazing work, particularly with the neck and scroll, C extension and machine heads.
Thanks also for the all the musicians who help me adjust the tone and setup.

Happy New Year 🥳 ! At 6am Melbourne time this must be the first Double Bass to be varnished in 2024, (unless someone was up nice and early in New Zealand?).
