Community members are still occupying the Dandenong Ranges National Park on Wurundjeri Country, having halted Forest Fire Management Victoria's logging for the day with a peaceful picnic. At the same time, locals have locked on to machinery in the Yarra Ranges National Park near Noojee, where an endangered Greater Glider was found crushed by a logging machine last week. Logging in our national parks cannot continue. This is NOT fire management. Actions taken by these community members today have successfully halted work and protected these forests for the day. They've had visits from Wedge-tailed eagles, Yellow-tail black cockatoos, and Gang-Gang Cockatoos. These forests are so special. We cannot allow this destruction to continue. Please contact the ministers in our last post to demand they intervene in these senseless works, and protect our parks properly! #ForestFireManagement #ProtectNativeForests #StopLogging

šŸŒæ DONATIONS CLOSE AT MIDDAY TOMORROW! šŸŒæ Please keep giving to support the epic work of our citizen science team. šŸØ šŸ‘‰ https://chuffed.org/project/ethicaljobs-vfa-matched-donations Help us to rethink and review forest fire management, survey forest flora and fauna, collaborate with Traditional Owners and Government on forest protection laws - and enable more Victorians to learn about these extraordinary forests. šŸŒ³ #ProtectNativeForests #CitizenScience

A DAY AND A HALF TO GO! šŸ Please keep those donations coming in so we can pay our wonderful citizen science team to head out into the forests and continue gathering data. šŸ¦œ Here's our new campaign Coordinator, Angelica, to chat about why it's so important. All donations are being doubled: https://chuffed.org/project/ethicaljobs-vfa-matched-donations #CitzenScience #Fundraising #ProtectNativeForests

Happy International Day of Forests! šŸŒ³šŸŒ³ Victoria's native forests are facing a new era of challenges, as we move away from native logging. We're fundraising at the moment to get our citizen science program back up and running, and @ethicaljobs.com.au is doubling every donation up to $9k for the next week! šŸØ šŸ‘‰ https://chuffed.org/project/ethicaljobs-vfa-matched-donations We need your help to protect these forests from new and emerging threats: unscientific prescribed burning, inadequate environmental protection laws, and logged areas left as wastelands. šŸ¦‰ By donating to this Chuffed campaign you will assist these Victorian communities to rethink and review forest fire management, survey forest flora and fauna, collaborate with Traditional Owners and Government on forest protection laws - and enable more Victorians to learn about these extraordinary forests. šŸŒ³ Please donate today, and have your impact doubled! šŸ‘‰ https://chuffed.org/project/ethicaljobs-vfa-matched-donations Link in bio. šŸ’š

Come and listen to Dr Phil Zylstra speak tomorrow in Kinglake, on how we can rethink planned burns in our native forests. The amazing @kinglakefriendsoftheforest have put together this talk with fire behaviour scientist Philip Zylstra, for a deep dive into planned burns and their impact on forests. Head down to Kinglake Community Centre at 7pm Tuesday to listen, learn, and connect with the community. #PlannedBurns #ProtectNativeForests

VFA as a newsmaker of 2023
Amongst the headlines created by The Matildas, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Jacinta Price, Margot Robbie, and a selection of other news-making Australians in the The Sydney Morning Herald, you'll find one stand out entry: The campaign that ENDED NATIVE FOREST LOGGING in Victoria. The VFA, represented by our incredibly staunch, hardworking campaign coordinator Chris Schuringa, have certainly made some waves in 2023. It's good to see that reflected in the media. The fight for our forests is far from over, but there is certainly a lot to celebrate. Read the article: https://www.smh.com.au/interactive/2023/gw-news-makers-2023/

ART FOR FORESTS šŸ¦œ We are so grateful to our entire community for supporting last week's art auction fundraiser to be such a success. Thank you all. šŸ’ššŸŒæ

Email Premier Allan
Have you taken part in our online action to call on Victoria's new Premier, Jacinta Allan to #AbolishVicForests? šŸŒ³ All you have to do is add your details to the open letter already signed by more than sixty environment, legal, and community groups demanding that the logging agency be entirely wound up. This gorgeous video of a Koala high up in a tree in the Otway Forest Park was taken by the VFA survey team last week. It shows exactly how we capture citizen science evidence to submit to the regulator: including GPS coordinates in an unbroken video from the species being recorded, which can be quite tricky in the darkness of a forest night! #CitizenScience #ProtectNativeForests
