It's celebrated with dragon boat races and a notable tradition is the making and eating of Zongzi with family and friends.

Fabulous and funny Modern Chinese Drama
Our Term 2 classes have finished. Enrol for Term 3 Chinese classes now which are starting from mid-July onwards. Meanwhile, if you are not into Historical Chinese dramas, check out 'Across the Ocean to See You' which is a contemporary drama - totally addictive. The main leads had great chemistry and had some hilarious moments. You can find this drama with English subtitles in Youtube or Viki.

Dragonboat race
Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday which falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. This year it falls on June 22. China will have 3 days of public holiday from this Thursday. Dragon Boat festival is celebrated in remembrance of Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet and statesman who drowned himself in the Miluo River in 278 BC in protest of his beloved homeland's fall. The festival include dragon boat races and eating glutinous rice dumplings (Zongzi). Zongzi are made of glutinous rice filled with meat, beans, and other fillings. They are wrapped in triangle or rectangle shapes within bamboo or reed leaves and tied with soaked stalks.

Yanxi Palace
It's almost the end of our Term 2 of Chinese classes - Term 3 will start from mid-July. If you can't wait to start, ask us about Private classes or Company classes. Meanwhile, check out this highly rated Chinese drama, 'Yanxi Palace', on Youtube or Netflix to improve your listening and reading (subtitles, hehe) skills.

The Chinese Lantern Festival or Yuanxiao Festival (元宵节) on 5th Feb, marks the end of the Chinese New Year. On the night of the Chinese Lantern Festival, streets are decorated with colorful lanterns. People eat sweet rice balls called tangyuan, watch dragon and lion dances, and set off fireworks. All our Chinese classes are starting this week - make sure you don't miss out! Mid Autumn Festival
Happy Mid-Autumn festival everybody! The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival and it falls on September 10th this year. The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. Chinese people celebrate it by gathering for dinners and lighting paper lanterns. Make sure you give your teacher a virtual mooncake or an e-mooncake! Better still, go celebrate after class! Here's a good video from Mulan explaining about this Festival.
