The Dragon Boat Festival is coming soon on Monday, June 10, 2024 which is an important traditional holiday for the Chinese. All the Chinese will have a 3-day holiday from Jun.8 to Jun.10.
It's celebrated with dragon boat races and a notable tradition is the making and eating of Zongzi with family and friends.

Did you know that Chinese New Year last 16 days, starting on Feb 10 and ending with the Lantern Festival on Feb 24? The Lantern Festival marks the end of the Chinese New Year period.

Xīn nián kuài lè or a Happy Chinese New Year!
A hóngbāo (in Mandarin) is a gift of money inserted into a special red envelope. These are given during Chinese New Year as a way to send good wishes. The color red symbolizes energy, happiness, and good luck in Chinese cultures. The significance of red envelopes is the red paper, not the money inside.
By the way, we have new Mid-Term Intensive Beginners Mandarin classes for adults from early March onwards!

What is Lunar New Year, and how is it celebrated in Australia? "Lunar New Year", also known as the "Spring Festival", has become a significant part of Australian culture. The celebration is so popular that Sydney's version is considered the largest outside Asia.
Chinese New Year 2024 will fall on Saturday, February 10th. China's public holiday for Lunar New Year is 8 days, from Chinese New Year to the 8th day of the lunar calendar new year.
2024 is a year of the Wood Dragon. Previous years of the Dragon were 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964 and 1952. If you were born in one of the above years, then you are a Dragon. The personality traits of people born in the year of the dragon are: charismatic, intelligent, confident, powerful and they are naturally lucky and gifted.

Happy Holidays everyone! The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival starts from September 29th. Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhongqiu Jie (中秋节), also known as the Mooncake Festival, is one of China's biggest holidays. This festive time is a celebration with family reunions, mooncakes, parades, and lanterns.

Meanwhile, if you are not into Historical Chinese dramas, check out 'Across the Ocean to See You' which is a contemporary drama - totally addictive. The main leads had great chemistry and had some hilarious moments. You can find this drama with English subtitles in Youtube or Viki.
Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday which falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. This year it falls on June 22. China will have 3 days of public holiday from this Thursday.
Dragon Boat festival is celebrated in remembrance of Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet and statesman who drowned himself in the Miluo River in 278 BC in protest of his beloved homeland's fall.
The festival include dragon boat races and eating glutinous rice dumplings (Zongzi). Zongzi are made of glutinous rice filled with meat, beans, and other fillings. They are wrapped in triangle or rectangle shapes within bamboo or reed leaves and tied with soaked stalks.
It's almost the end of our Term 2 of Chinese classes - Term 3 will start from mid-July. If you can't wait to start, ask us about Private classes or Company classes.

The Chinese Lantern Festival or Yuanxiao Festival (元宵节) on 5th Feb, marks the end of the Chinese New Year. On the night of the Chinese Lantern Festival, streets are decorated with colorful lanterns. People eat sweet rice balls called tangyuan, watch dragon and lion dances, and set off fireworks.

This year, Chinese New Year will fall on Sunday, January 22nd, starting the Year of the Rabbit. Chinese New Year traditionally last for 16 days, starting from Chinese New Year's Eve to the Lantern Festival.

Happy Mid-Autumn festival everybody! The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival and it falls on September 10th this year. The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. Chinese people celebrate it by gathering for dinners and lighting paper lanterns.
Make sure you give your teacher a virtual mooncake or an e-mooncake! Better still, go celebrate after class!
