• Start learning how to play an uncommon musical instrument.

During the 1920s, the swing dance emerged from the black community, influenced by contemporary jazz music. This new style of dance was perfectly suited to the lively and infectious rhythms of "Swing Jazz", as the music became known. Swing dance and jazz music evolved alongside one another, with dancers adapting their movements to fit the music, and vice versa. By the mid-1920s, the name "swing dance" had taken hold, encompassing a variety of styles like the Balboa, Lindy Hop, Lindy Charleston, and Collegiate S**g. While many of these dances originated in African American communities, others developed elsewhere. Today, the Lindy Hop remains the most popular of the swing dances.
