Sunday May 22nd, 2022 Mount Dandenong Hotel Melbourne Welsh Male Choir Reviewer: Lady Shaula On a perfect Sunday at the Mt Dandenong Hotel (or the Mt Dandy Pub as it’s more affectionately known) the rafters were filled with the exquisite sound of the Welsh Male Choir, led by maestro David Ashton-Smith From the first notes of a welsh anthem, through to more familiar songs, we were treated to an international standard choir in a surprisingly local space. They Call the Wind Mariah raised the roof and the audience demanded a series of encores, ensuring their hearts were full from this soulful sound I was astonished to learn this is a non-score reading choir who learns all their songs by rote. With such fine attention to detail and dynamic range, it was difficult to imagine, but maestro assured me there were recordings and more to assist in the multi-part learning.
