No words 😢

No smart phones or tablets for our kids around here.

Our world is such a fast track to everything that strips childhood magic away. Not only does screen time inhibit brain development, but there is also so much out there that they don’t need in their brain.

In our home, we let them explore childhood with freedom from devices.

As parents, and in our home as believers, it’s our job to help our kids navigate this world to create habits that help them learn to honor God.

But it’s so easy to lean on screen time to help entertain our kids.

It’s easy to let them watch movies, play games, scroll, etc especially when it’s so addictive.

In our family we have made the choice to not have any screens available except the tv with our children and they only use it for family movie nights or for movies when we are sick.

Even though it is hard, sometimes it is helpful to not even have it as on option.

But if screen time is already thing, how do you minimize screen time?

Here are some helpful tips-

1- Model it: minimize your own screen time. Kids will do what they see modeled.
Create screen free areas in your home! Bedrooms, dinner table, etc.
2- Accountability- set out boundaries. For example 1 hour of screen time a day. Many devices have settings to set limits. Set expectations and don’t change them.
3- Go slowly. If you are using screen time a lot as an entertainment tool, start by slowly weaning down. If you aren’t going to quit cold turkey, you HAVE to stay accountable or it’s easy to slip back into habits.
4- Engage: interact face to face with your child. Play with them, read to them. Play games, do crafts! There is SO much life beyond screens.
5- Instruct: teach your kids to play independently. At first it might be really hard as screen time us very addictive! But you will be surprised at how creative and imaginative your kids are when not behind a screen. Be clear on the boundaries and don’t budge with whining.
6- Go outside! My favorite! Kids should spend so much time outside. There is so much imagination and opportunity for play outside! 30/12/2023

We don’t want to live in a state of fear and distrust but please be mindful with our precious children.

Love this. Particularly observing the different reactions - from the blondie doing full body dives to the little guy in the blue jacket who initially seems excited but apprehensive ❤️

If you want a calm child - be calm 😎
One of the most important quotes I heard early in my career was “bring the child into your calm. Don’t join them in their chaos” 🙏
