Australian visual artist. Late bloomer unleashing my creativity in painting, drawing & printmaking. Thanks for stopping by. Message me to enquire about artwork.
Feel free to share my page/pics with your friends! Banksia Imaginata - a phrase I coined to encompass all my banksia inspired artworks. Check out https://linktr.ee/maryannestuart
Inspired by nature, especially birds and botanicals, my preferred media are acrylic, collage, printmaking, watercolour and gouache. Colour and pattern are main features in my spontaneously created art works.
Going to try and finish one last painting before we leave here on Sunday. The road we are living on is well and truly in farm land. Go left out of the driveway, then about 1km and there is an All Way Stop Sign (flipping ridiculous concept), then a right turn on the crest, past a farm and huge cornfield.
I’ve taken a still shot from the video I took; squared it up and dropped the colour out. Popped in the grid lines to assist sketching the composition and painted a high key background (Indian Yellow).
Still on my quest to simplify the landscape. I love being an artist. It’s a never ending learning curve.
Trying to capture the foggy morning last week. Very much not happy with this. Got to keep working at it.
Still working on my landscapes here. These are made just using a palette knife for quick laying down of colours; trying not to focus on details.
A little tribute to some of the rooflines we’ve seen here in Ontario.
Not sure whether to add more pattern or leave as is before I paint it. What do you think?
Based on some of the decorative features of furniture in this beautiful old 1895 Canadian farmhouse where I’m spending the month.
I’m happy with how this little painting turned out.
Farmhouse on Cranston Road.
Very happy to see that my postcard painting The Red Tractor has sold at this year’s Postcard Art Exhibit (formerly Twitter Art Exhibit) in Texas.
You can still purchase a brilliant piece of art on a postcard, even though the exhibition has ended. Online sales remain open to October 22. See link in my profile.

Trying to capture my new surroundings.
More pics from the Southend Urban Landscape Open exhibition. Great opportunity to meet local artists.
Thank you for capturing me working.
There’s nothing quite like a full day dedicated to painting. I had a ball this year. Thanks for the welcome!
What a glorious day and how lucky am I to spend it by the seaside, under a brilliant blue sky, painting?
Very grateful to my art roadie
Thanks to and all the organising team. Nice to meet local artists too.
Exhibition tomorrow
The third of my banksias painted for the Southchurch Arts Trail. Finished for this year. Will I be here for next year’s art trail?? Who knows??art.trail
This is mixed media on canvas panel 8” x 8” or 20cm x 20cm for the non-imperialists!
Available.
Not only did I create two biggish works, I made three little 8” x 8” banksia panels.
Forgot to take a pic of the third!
Thank you for having me in your space and thank you for the opportunity .art.trail
The weird and wonderful! I’ve really enjoyed creating these artworks which are a departure from my usual. Very much of the time and place, both are about this town of Southend on Sea, where I’ve been spending the summer with a dear friend.
From the blue painted timber beach shack that is to the longest pleasure pier in the world; the roads and roundabout going into Marks & Spencer (quintessential English shopping experience!) on the high street - shapes that came to me in a dream.
Thank you to for giving me such a great window to display my art in.
Both 36” x 24”

Thank you so much to Lee and the team at Amber Mortgage Solutions for providing the very generous and slick window space to hang my art for this year’s Southchurch Art Trail. Officially open from 14-24 September, many windows along Southchurch Road already have art in them.

Some things can’t be rushed. It’s days till the installation deadline and I’m just realising how I need to finish this one.

In lieu of a progress shot of the two bigger canvases I’m working on for a local show, here is a bit of a fun colourful journal doodle inspired by art nouveau style.

Mary-Anne Stuart, artist
Inspired by nature, especially birds and botanicals, I work in watercolour, pencils, inks and oils, occasionally collage. Colour and pattern are constant elements in my art. In fact, I really feel that pattern is integral to life; the very fabric of life, whether human, botanical or animal. My art works reflect this and my love of Australian flora and fauna.

” The Banksia is my muse and has been my obsession and subject for the last few years. I have coined a phrase – Banksia imaginata – to describe the body of my artworks that are intuitively created and inspired by the unique structure, colours and patterns found in this Australian native plant species.”
Environmental concerns propel me in my artwork; I like to re-use everyday items as mark making techniques – from kitchen tools to paper coffee cups, cardboard and sticks, leaves and bark, envelopes, magazines and plastic waste material.
