How nice is the Kaleido studio looking. This month has been a whirlwind of nurturing activity. We've been immersed in providing both online and in-person Art Therapy supervision, gathering an array of new art materials to explore, and launching the first workshop in our Soundspa series. Annie, has been balancing her time between fostering growth here at Kaleido, and going back to work as a senior art therapist at an adult and addiction mental health hospital. With these commitments, we've decided to send out our newsletter on a monthly basis, instead of fortnightly. But remember, even as we transition through these changes, we are always here for you. Your journey and questions matter to us, and we're just an email away.

So excited to kick-start the Kaleido SoundSpa series with musician . Ohh is a composer who has a passion for creating emotive music and sound pieces using the piano, noises, manipulated samples, text and electronic instruments. Ohh is drawn to music’s emotive qualitiesand its power to influence the way we feel and experience things.
The first workshop in the series is titled Symphony of Self. The workshop will begin with a cup of tea and guided meditation, followed by mindfulness exercises using natural objects. Participants will then engage in 30 minutes of guided art creation without the need for previous art skills. The session will wrap up with group reflections and a calming closing meditation. Throughout the workshop, musician Ohh will deliver soothing sounds from nature and traditional instruments, known as a soundbath, proven to help reduce stress, fatigue, and depression symptoms.
We aim for you to depart not only with a unique piece of artwork reflecting your inner rhythm but also feeling relaxed, connected, and rejuvenated, aligning your mind, body, and soul.

Here it is ... the new logo for Kaleidos Art Psychotherapy.
While often deliberating between "art therapy" and "art psychotherapy," I completed my master's degree in art psychotherapy at Roehampton in London. During this program, I delved into contemporary theories on human growth and development, integrating them with art and play therapy. The curriculum included an in-depth examination of analytical art psychotherapy, critically exploring Jungian and post-Jungian theories alongside practical placements and research. Participating in personal therapy and group process sessions was a fundamental aspect of the course. Gosh I could say so much about those three years... a held breakdown, mountains of personal reflections with communal revelations, it was a profound experience, it was enormous and forever changed me. Forever grateful to myself and my peers for getting me through it.
Hosted a cute New year cycle vision board workshop the week leading up to the new year. People often think this will be fun, then think ah do I really have time for this and then after are thanking themselves they did. You gotta put it out into the world. Scroll for mine 🌸

Sorry if I have missed any of your messages or been late in getting back to some. I needed some time away in my role as a therapist (it's been a while and so important to do this for safe practice). This year becoming a mother, connecting with myself and family has been a focus. I've been grounding with my roots through rituals and dancing on land where my ancestors are from and new grounds full of adventure. That's why I've been a little quiet on here. Looking forward to getting back to the magic of art therapy next year with this year's inspiration, depth and energy.

I will be sharing some of the spaces I have recently gone too which help me tend to mind, body and spirit. These areas need care in order to keep well and heal. First up .bodywork , I saw this photograph by on Georgia's feed and it encompassed my experience in her treatment; held, supported, safe and honest. I, as most people can easily ignore how much tension our bodies can hold, Georgia's bodywork helps to release that tension. Through Georgia's care I was able to connect with the tension I was holding and her magical hands and space eased it out. Georgia is also a pregnancy massage practitioner and a 'general lover of all things birth'. Highly recommend if you're in Naarm.

"I’ve done talking therapy for years – debriefing incidents and situations – but no art or music, and I loved it. It was a form of self-expression I’d never tapped into before,” she says. “I didn’t know what it was going to do to my brain, but I had some big breakthroughs.”

Our Story
My name is Annie Fox and I am a qualified Art Psychotherapist, ANZACATA Registered.
Often when a person is in a hard place or feels stuck, words can be too distressing or difficult. In art therapy, art materials are provided as a primary mode of expression. This helps the client in communicating things that are difficult or impossible to articulate. We provide a safe and contained environment for people to express themselves through creative avenues.
The art therapy process aids in traumatic experiences and feelings to be looked at and held, enabling the person to enhance their self-understanding. This self-directed visual process gives definition to the re-organising and structuring of internal chaos.
What is art therapy?
Art therapy is a form of art psychotherapy which examines and understands people’s behaviours, interactions, emotions and relationships, which in turn can help support the individual to change and understand these areas.
Art therapy is informed by psychoanalysis. Art therapists have been inspired by theories such as attachment-based psychotherapy and have developed a broad range of client-centred approaches.
I mostly use a non-directive approach which means the client takes the lead in the therapy. I will reflect back, and support in helping to make sense of information the client is providing, offer possible interpretations, or seek clarification, but ultimately it is the client who initiates the content of the therapy session. This approach allows for unconscious thoughts and feelings to develop and become conscious, helping to understand our deeper and truer feelings.
I place high importance on each client expressing their unique and true nature through their artwork. Encouraging the individuation process which allows ‘life in which the individual becomes what he always was’ (Jung, 1980: para 84).
Art therapy is regulated, this impartial regulatory system ensures the public are safe by maintaining a register of health and care professionals who meet their standards of training, professional skills, behaviour and health.
