A huge shoutout to everyone who made our sold-out Drag Bingo night such a smashing success! We’re thrilled by the fantastic turnout (140 fabulously dressed locals) and Freida Commitment, who dazzled us with her lip-sync performances, hilarious jokes, and energetic dance routines.

Just a quick clarification: While the event was fabulous and full of high-energy fun, it was exclusively for adults. We had no school-aged children in attendance, keeping things just as fabulous and appropriate as we intended.

We were also delighted to welcome back Tim Wilson to the club! While his presence might have stirred up some local chatter, we’ve always appreciated his long-term support of the club.

Thanks for all the love and support—can’t wait to see you at our next event! Stay tuned for details 💃✨

🎉 Congratulations to Noel Sutcliffe - Our Newest Life Member! 🎉

At our recent Annual General Meeting, members unanimously voted to award Noel Sutcliffe the esteemed Life Membership of Black Rock Yacht Club. This honour is a testament to his outstanding service and dedication over many decades.

Noel's journey with BRYC began in the early 1960s as a young sailor, and he’s been an integral part of our club ever since. From sailing International Cadets, OK Dinghies, and Lasers to keelboats, Noel’s passion for sailing is unmatched. He’s led our junior and disabled sailing programs, driven rescue boats, and served on the General Committee multiple times, including as Commodore.

Noel’s contributions don’t stop on the water. He’s our club historian, a constant problem-solver, and the person who’s always there when something needs fixing or improving—like our finish marks, flagpole, or even the new barbecues.

His quiet support for members in need and his commitment to resolving challenges within the club highlight his character and dedication. Noel embodies the spirit of Black Rock Yacht Club, and we are proud to honour him with Life Membership.

Thank you, Noel, for everything you’ve done and continue to do for BRYC!

BRYC members Kristen Kearns, Andrea Schloegl and Heidi Tucker recently competed in the 26km ultra-marathon swim from Palm Beach to Shelly Beach, Sydney. The ladies swam the event as solos but in tandem, sharing a boat crew and jet ski. They completed the swim in just under 8 hours, finishing in 10th position.

The conditions were better than expected but they still encountered a southerly head-on swell and wind during the second half of the swim. They had an uneventful swim in comparison to some who had to deal with shark sightings. A shark even knocked a support kayaker off their kayak!

This marks the 2nd of the 3 swims required to complete the Australian Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming. Last year all three ladies completed the Port to Pub, 25km ultra marathon swim in Perth. They hope to undertake the 3rd and final swim of 34km down the Derwent River in Tasmania next year. So far only 2 other BRYC members have completed the Australian Triple Crown (Richard Jones and Sharon Young).

In the meantime, Kristen Kearns is scheduled to take on the notorious 34km English Channel crossing at the end of August this year. When Kristen completes it, she will be added to the prestigious list of English Channel swimmers at BRYC.

Winter Solstice - 22nd June, 2024

BRYC held their annual winter solstice swim on Sat night, 22nd June 2024. There was close to 100 swimmers, 40 odd volunteers, full moon, superb conditions, lots of flashing tow floats to light up the water, pumping music and curry dinner to warm up afterwards.
