Since 1993 New Magic Australia has represented and distributed only the highest quality multimedia hardware and software. We represent a carefully selected range of innovative, leading manufacturers, catering for both the professional and consumer markets.
Today we announced DaVinci Resolve 19.0.1 which includes a number of improvements including better timeline responsiveness when moving a large number of clips. This means that your timeline will update more quickly when you are selecting and moving large numbers of clips on edit, cut or Fairlight timelines. There is also improved playback performance when using a fixed playhead workspace, resulting in more consistent smoother, playback.
When using the media management tool to move or copy media, files with embedded AAF content will now be correctly transcoded so your audio will playback accurately. In addition, when duplicating timelines or applying grades between clips, mattes will now remain enabled and linked.
For DaVinci Resolve Studio users, this update addresses an issue with license activation on macOS 15 Sequoia systems, as well as improving bus assignment for Dolby audio workflows where the renderer was not coming online.

Cinematographer Christian Sebaldt, ASC shot ‘Flamenco Night’ on a full set of Atlas Mercury anamorphic lenses with the URSA Cine full frame cinema camera. These scenes were shot 12K 3:2 open gate (12288 x 8040) and 8K 3:2 open gate (8192 x 5360).
“I recently shot a beautiful, moody night setting with an amazing Flamenco dancer and Spanish guitarist. It was designed to have challenging lighting that would test the sensor and the camera’s dynamic range. We had candles and torches, which can be very tricky at night for lesser cameras. I was amazed at how beautiful the images were, especially all the different slow-motion speeds, but especially how the URSA Cine holds the highlights in the flames of the torches. The highlight roll-off is excellent and so is the color science with this camera.”
“Straight out of the box this camera can capture amazing images. It has tremendous latitude. I deliberately made the lighting hard for the camera, and it still ‘wowed me’ with how much range it has. As the dancer in slow-motion moves past the bright flame of the torch, I can still see detail in her dark dress and hair, which is surprising.”
“I have used Blackmagic’s cameras for ten years now, immediately falling in love with their color science and image quality. They produce very natural and pleasing tones and I find they’re equally strong for network shows and big theatrical screens. They deliver on image quality and there’s no headache in final color correction.”
“Going with a full frame 3:2 12K sensor on the URSA Cine is simply genius. I honestly don’t want to go back to Super 35 now. Just being able to shoot wider or tighter on the same lens by changing the sensor mode (and slightly cropping), saves me when every second on the set counts.”
“This camera can shoot Super 35 (4-perf equivalent) in 9K at 100fps and FF 8K and 4K (2.4:1) at 220fps! With that extra resolution you can even shoot 12K 3:2 open gate at 80 fps and 12K 2.4:1 (12,288 x 5112) at 120 fps! The amazing thing is, being able to shoot in 4K, 8K, or even 12K, using the entire sensor without cropping and still retaining the full field of view of your lenses. I think this camera leaves everyone else behind in terms of its development.”

Today we announced that the final release of DaVinci Resolve 19 is now available.
DaVinci Resolve 19 is a major new update which adds new DaVinci Neural Engine AI tools, over 100 feature upgrades such as IntelliTrack AI, Ultra NR noise reduction, ColorSlice six vector grading, film look creator FX and multi source editing on the cut page. For Fusion there are new USD tools and multipoly rotoscoping tools, plus Fairlight has new Fairlight AI audio panning to video, ducker track FX and ambisonic surround sound. Blackmagic Cloud has new features that make it easy to use for large companies with multiple users collaborating on the same project at the same time. There’s also support for DaVinci Resolve Replay so you can create live action replays straight to air during live events and convert those replays into promos, highlight packages and instant social media updates.
With this update, editors can work directly with transcribed audio to find speakers and edit timeline clips. Colorists can produce rich film like tones with the ColorSlice six vector palette and produce cinematic images using the new film look creator effect which emulates photometric film processes. In Fairlight, the IntelliTrack AI can be used to track motion and automatically pan audio. VFX artists in Fusion have an expanded set of USD tools plus a new multipoly rotoscoping tool which displays all of your masks in a single list. The cut page has new broadcast replay tools for live multi camera broadcast editing, playout and replay with speed control. There’s also support for live sync with Blackmagic Cloud which uploads media into a DaVinci Resolve bin while the camera is recording so editors and colorists can start working even while the camera is rolling.
We would like to thank all of the customers that participated in the beta program, tested the software in a variety of workflows, reported bugs and helped to make DaVinci Resolve 19 even more reliable.

Today we released Blackmagic Camera for iOS 2.0, which adds support for remotely controlling and monitoring multiple iPhones at the same time. This means your iPhone can be set up as a controller so phones running Blackmagic Camera can be securely connected using a wired or wifi network. This lets you view all your cameras in a multi view, allowing you to monitor and control things like zoom, focus, white balance, frame rate, shutter angle or lens selection on an individual camera or adjust all connected cameras at the same time. It also enables you to synchronize all your cameras so they start and stop recording at the same time.
This update also adds support for Apple Silicon based iPad Pros, allowing you to use the iPad as a camera or as a controller. When used as a controller the iPad’s larger display makes it easier to monitor multiple cameras in either a multi view setup with up to nine cameras on screen at a time, or scroll through each individual camera.
In addition, this update adds support to capture up to 100fps in HD on iPhone 15 Pro. There is also a new option to select multiple clips in the media tab so you can copy or delete them all at once. This feature speeds up your workflow as it allows you to quickly and easily clear space or copy clips to an external drive.

Filmmakers John Elfers and Ryan Harris shot their indie-horror ‘Moon Garden’ on expired 35mm short-tails film stock in order to get the grittiness of old school Art House and Grind House films of the 70’s and 80’s. John and Ryan talk about learning how to scan this challenging project using Blackmagic Cintel Scanner and DaVinci Resolve. The filmmakers share their experiences shooting old out of date film on a bunch of revitalised film cameras.
“We are asked frequently, why shoot on film”.
“To be honest, both Ryan and I have worked on digital productions, and we never felt the digital formats had the same magic as film. What you see on the monitor, is what you get, which is fine, but without fail, every time we’ve shot on film, we get the footage back and it looks exceptionally better than it did in reality. Film has a way of binding everything together, glossing over imperfections, and elevating the imagery. And personally, I love the grittiness of old school Art House and Grind House films of the 70’s and 80’s. That aesthetic lives in my blood.”
“Film was always our target, and we were striving for that gritty, edgy feel you get not only on film, but when you push the emulsion by letting it expire and age. We knew that on an indie film, the challenge would always be money, so the solution to scan the film for editorial was a critical component. While we wanted the vintage quality of film, we also wanted to use modern tools to finish, including editorial and grading.”
"We spent over a decade sharpening our teeth working on other people’s films. And meanwhile, I built up an arsenal of vintage lenses, 35mm cameras, grip and electric. I stockpiled one hundred thousand feet of expired film stock in my kitchen, stored in front of an air conditioner.”
“What’s truly exceptional about the journey of ‘Moon Garden’ is that our scan on the Cintel became what used to be called a Digital Intermediate, that we then used to print back out to 35mm film for release in theaters. This has been our dream from the start, and the opening weekend of “Moon Garden” in Los Angeles sold out all three 35mm Memorial Day Weekend screenings!

Today we announced Blackmagic Camera for Android 1.1, which adds support for HDMI monitoring so you can view a larger image of what you’re filming. This means you get a better view of your scene which helps when checking focus, exposure and composition of your shot, and even watch the recording with multiple monitors so everyone on set can view the footage.
This update also adds pull focus controls to the camera so you can change the focus of the lens during a continuous shot. This allows you to gradually pull focus between 3 preset focus points in the foreground or background, giving you the ability to draw your audience’s attention to different elements and change the emphasis of a scene.
There’s also support for syncing media directly to a Blackmagic Cloud Organizations account, which allows you to select between syncing media to your personal account or your company’s organizations account when logging on, speeding up your workflow.
In addition, you now have the ability to dim the screen while recording, apply noise reduction or sharpening to the recorded image and use 3D LUTS while recording and monitoring.
Blackmagic Camera for Android 1.1 also adds support for more Android phones, including Xiaomi 13 and 14, OnePlus 11 and 12, Samsung Galaxy S21 and S22, Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a. Download now from Google Play, free of charge, at http://bmd.link/3EXap4

Today we released public beta 5 of DaVinci Resolve 19 which adds further improvements to the DaVinci public beta, including the ability for multiview layouts in the cut page to adapt to the width of the viewer. This means the layout is optimized to display all of the sources with the minimum amount of blank space. There’s also the ability to set transition type, duration and alignment from the cut page timeline context menu, giving you faster and easier access when making these common editing decisions. In addition, cut page timelines can now show render cache activity so you are able to monitor when caching is in progress or has been completed.
This update also adds new Resolve FX film look creator options for emulating different stocks, allowing you to simulate some of your favorite film looks and adjust them to meet your creative vision. In addition, DaVinci Resolve now has the ability to retain video clip metadata when syncing audio and video files so the user can select to use either audio or video metadata to retain shot, scene and take information. Speed changes in the inspector are now keyframe aware meaning you can now add speed points to the clip and the speed of the clip playback between these keyframes can be adjusted on the timeline or using the inspector.
For DaVinci Resolve Studio, there has been a performance upgrade that allows for up to 3x faster AI performance on supported Intel Windows systems. This means you will experience faster workflows when working with AI tools such as magic mask, text based timeline editing, music remixing, dialogue separation, IntelliTrack AI and UltraNR noise reduction. Also for Studio users, there are new automatic SDR to HDR tone mapping and 2x and 4x SuperScale options when using Windows machines with supported Nvidia GPUs.

Today we released public beta 4 of DaVinci Resolve 19 which adds further improvements to the DaVinci public beta, including the ability to live sync video from Blackmagic Design cameras. This allows H.264 proxies from the camera to sync into a DaVinci Resolve bin while the camera is recording. This means that within seconds, editors and colorists in post production facilities around the world can see media arriving in real time. Now they can start editing and grading, even while the camera continues to record. Files are live synced to Blackmagic Cloud as they are recorded, and then live synced to all DaVinci Resolve workstations that are connected to the same cloud project. All you need to do is connect to the project!
This update also adds new selection features for Blackmagic Cloud organizations, enabling you to view and switch organizations right from the project manager. This means you no longer have to log out of Blackmagic Cloud to select projects in a different organization.
For DaVinci Resolve Studio users, there is a new occlusion mask for the surface tracker so you can more clearly specify the object you want to track, while tracker modifiers in Fairlight will now default to using IntelliTrack to ensure you the best results when applying audio panning. There are also various improvements to Resolve FX film look creator to provide you with a more realistic film look in HDR mode, as well as better halation and handling of aspect ratios when using this effect.
Other improvements include a new option to select checkerboard and grey alpha viewer background in the cut and edit pages so you can quickly identify images and clips with alpha channels. New and imported projects will now default to camera originals over proxies if they are available, allowing you to grade or edit using the higher quality original footage.
There’s also support for Blackmagic RAW 4.1, improved waveform display for media with synced audio, retention of the playhead position when opening nested clips and a range of general performance and stability improvements.
